For the first time in many years I'm letting my contract roll onto a monthly arrangement.

I'm currently on VT500 (which is sufficient for me) alongside a 1Gb data package (FUP, XSeries Silver). TOTAL is £10 pcm

I can't get that for less than £15 elsewhere, and additionally decided I wanted to go for a Nokia N900. With only vodafone carrying this the temptation was to head there, but having crunched the figures I opted to buy the N900 outright when on offer (cost £350 with a recent special offer, minus £125 for existing phone!)

I still may call 3, get a pac and see if there's anything they can offer, but so far the offers have not been cost effective (ie to see the handset for a profit), nor could they offer what I wanted (handset choice).

So end result is now only 30 days notice with unlocked/unbranded handset :-)

What happens when you are not in a contract but paying monthly and want to leave, do you still have to see out the 30 day notice or if you ask for the pac code and use it straight away do they still charge for the 30 days notice?

Also, the sim card has gone faulty due to coffee being spilt on it, its corroded and doesnt work most of the time now. Would they charge to replace it with a new sim card but keeping the same number?

This contract actually ran out in August last year but havent got around to upgrading yet and have had no calls at all from three
    Thanx

I think you still have to give a months notice.
I had a SIM fail on me and they sent a replacement free of charge.
Luckily I had another phone to test it in.
Even then I had to answer the same sets of techy questions from 3 or 4 people
    before I got the replacement.
It arrived next day but I think it took about a week of phonecalls before they were
    convinced it was the SIM.
(They were all obviously reading a same 'script' of questions)

3 charged me £5 for a replacement sim when mine stopped working.
I then wasted 40 mins on (their) phone for this to be refunded on my next bill.

o2 on the other hand simply programmed another instore and it started working overnight for a cost of zero :)

If you pay monthly upfront, then the 30 day notice period should be already paid for, at least partially, if you go to another network :)

  • No Lady_K, happens for me too. WOuld love to see what rubbish offer they'd give me through the online page!
If only I could stop finding good bargains on this site, I would save a fortune! :rotfl:
  • Doesn't work for me either.
  • Have just been into the three shop to upgrade my phone they told me they no longer allow you to upgrade your phone 3 months before the end of your contract (I have an 18 month contract).
They told me that if i phoned the call centre then they would be able to make me a deal. When i phoned them i had no problems with the length of time till the end of my contract but they wanted me to pay to upgrade my phone. Told them i would jus leave it but is there any truth behind this or are they just fobbing me off?

Can you ask for your pac code at the same time as telling them you are cancelling contract and want to start the 30 day notice? Its just I called up and they did not offer any good deals at all and totally different from what I told them I wanted so I said put me in for cancellation, he said don't you want your pac code and I said no if I want it I will ring back to get it

The reason I did that is because I thought that you could only have one or the other and if he gave me the pac code it would stop my cancellation is this right or can I ring back for a pac code and still keep the cancellation date they gave me which was march 3rd from today

I will need my pac code but only when I get the right deal and thought it at least better to put the cancellation in first as it willl cut down on how much I will owe on final bill
    Thanx

Sadly true, went down from 110 days to 38 days at the middle of last month. As early upgrades don't form part of your contract you've got no recourse.
    Hope that helps,

    Mark
