3 Retention Deals

i'm currently out of contract with 3 but still paying for a £10 deal, 500 mins/100 texts. apparently this is a £30 deal with £20 loyalty discount.
a few months ago i phoned and said i would consider a new contract if they had the right deal and could increase my texts. the deals were pretty fixed and they werent really listening to what i was asking for, instead trying to sell me things like free internet access, skype calls etc (which i never use or would use). eventually my battery died and i left it as it was.
in the meantime i've been looking at o2 deals and signed up for simplicity at £10 a month (150 mins/300 texts) which also gives me £5 off my broadband. so total for mobile and broadband would be £17.50 a month.
i decide to call 3 to finally end the deal, and request my pac code. as usual the rep is not listening and offering me new deals, i said i rang before and none of the deals suited me. eventually the £15 a month deal (200 mins / unlimited texts) was offered with a new sony w890i and it occured to me i could sell the phone and pay for a fair bit of the 18 month contract. plus knowing they have 14 day cooling off i accepted this.
so now have this new sony walkman phone here unused and likely to send it back and finally get a pac code for my new o2 deal. o2 customer service so far has been very good via email, never tried to call them. just thought i'd share my experiences with them. 3 customer services dont seem to want to end any contracts, they must have a lot of cooling off returns.0 -
why dont you buy a add on with 3 ?
200 cost £10, return upgarde & add that your 500/100 plan ?
500 mins & 300 texts for £20, no tie in contract, as for o2 well their BB cheap enough at full price - given even 1 minute overusage of 350 mins on o2 on simplicity would be hell of expensive !

so that would be £20 + £12.50 broadband a month for 500/300 = £32.50
for £27.50 i could get o2 simplicity with 600/unlimited
but i'm only a light user so for £17.50 i could get o2 150/300 (£5 off the b/b)
currently its £10 for 500/100 making a total of £22.50
what do you reckon?0 -
Hi,
I have two 3 contracts and have been offered 2 upgrade deals both 18 month contracts:
£20 for 750mins, 150txt, unlimited landline calls, skype, with a SE C510
£23 for 300mins, 1000txt, 50video mins, 50mms, £5 downloads, unlimited data, skype, with nokia E71
I think they are pretty good deals, but does anyone think i could get a better deal if i cancel and then wait?
thanks0 -
Those are pretty good deals really, my biggest issue with 3 is how they have to bulk out tarrifs (bar the texter plans) with loads of stuff you are not really going to need such as the video packs on mix and match tarrifs, £20 extra for an N96 haha thats criminal who is going to use 200 video minutes.
As with your upgrades Short if you use all of those things its great but chances are getting a full use out of all of those extras is not going to happen.
I wish 3's retention team had a way of customising the newer tarrifs and not just discounting the old VTT ones with a bunch of stuff that will never be used.0 -

In your £20 tariff above you mention that you get 750 mins, yet then say that landline calls are unlimited. Are you saying that the 750 mins are fr mobile to mobile calls?
Also, you mentioned Skype - how does that come into the equation?
On the £23 tariff you mentioned unlimited data. By that do you mean unlimted internet access? I guess not because you mention £5 of downloads or is that music?0 -

The 750 mins are anytime any network minutes.
The landline mins are 2000 mins to landlines anytime
The data is 1GB of internet usage/downloads; i.e. their £5 internet add on.
The £5 downloads is for downloading music and vids from the three portal. i know you used to be able to use it for their mobile tv and mobizines many moons ago, but dont know if that is still the case.
The woman i spoke to basically said that i can have one unlimited pack on each line; either 1GB of data, or 2000 mins to landlines or 2000 sms; these being the fair usage allowance per the 'unlimited' pack. Those are the two pack that i went for cos that is wha my bro and dad would use (the people who would use the phones).
There is also unlimited 3 to 3 calls on each tarriff with a fair usage of 2000mins a month.
The skype is unlimited (fair usage = 4000 mins) of skype calling minutes included in each tarriff too; but i think this comes with the tarriff as opposed to it being an extra. To use you need a skype compatible handset and both handsets i have chose are.
Are other people getting better offers than this? or cheaper ones?
I know about 2 years ago I got one from three with a £550 credit equating to about 14 or 15 of the 18 month contract as free if I dont take a new phone. Do they still offer these deals? If so I will cancel and chance it. I dont need a new phone.0 -

I agree with you. The retention team are good at giving you offers but then push them at you rather than listening at what you want.
I know that the packs are not going to be used much and I doubt skype will be used much, but the £20 tarriff is for my dad who is currently on orange and their best upgrade was £20 a month without a phone or £22.50 with for his tarriff of 500mins/100txt and unlimited landlines which he does use about 400mins of.
Compared to these deals the three ones are just a little better.
but i do agree that if i could have it from 3 at £15 a month without the unlimited landlines, i would much prefer it and it would still be usable.0 -

Thanks for the information. You wouldn't believe that I used to manage 80 mobile phones for the company I worked for. But that was 4 years back and things have changed so much.
Going back to the Skype thing. I'm wondering how that works. I know with conventional Skype you have a phone that attaches to your pc, and an account with Skype and you make free Skype to Skype calls via the pc and pay for Skype to non-Skype calls. With the option you mention on your mobile, do you have to hook the mobile upto your pc to get the advantage of the Skype calls and are they free?0 -
Steve if you buy a Skype enabled handset on 3 you dont need to connect it to your pc to use it know, its installed on your handset and you just run the program and you would a moble game and then it runs in the background, if you get a Sony Ericsson phone its displayed as a small purple box at the top of the screen when its minimised and is found in your launcher, just log in with your normal account details and your away0
