Imagia ..the thing is though that us sellers who have taken 'years' to get to 1000 feedback are small fry, it is those that ebay don't want. The larger sellers can easily do several thousand sales a year..so it won't affect them at all. Whilst the big sellers are not fussed, in fact some of those have come out in support of the moves, any customer dis-atisfaction will be ignored.

The whole point of these changes is to gear ebay towards a more professional market with huge mega sellers and less smaller sellers. Just look at the FVf differences between regular sellers and the mega listers.

Likewise, one neg to a seller who maybe only manages a few hundred sales a year is going to be a lot worse than a handful of negs to a mega lister on several thousand feedback a year. So, ultimately smaller sellers will possibly get worse percentage feedback scores and pay higher fees than mega sellers...so that leaves the mega sellers able to undercut us price wise and grab all the buyers.

    2. Sellers will no longer be able to leave negative or neutral Feedback for buyers. This change will occur in May, 2008.

    This is just plain stupid

I understood all this the moment the changes were announced. It is a very good explanation of the changes though, good job. Sellers who haven't heard yet will thank you for this summary.

I agree however after the change over when they cant have the threat of retaliatory negs for buyers lets see how happy they are with it when they are getting negged when they dont think they deserve it and cant answer back about it - if ebay is mainly mega-sellers as they seem to want then it will be a dog eat dog as one mega-seller messes up a competitors feedback (create a new account, buy alot of items, leave neg feedback and non delivery or similar etc). These powersellers think ebay will be great if all theirs but they will all start nobbling each other for larger chunks of sales. Ebay have really shot themselves in the foot over this and this is from a seller who stopped using ebay and does not miss it at all (no more stupid feedback like I paid for recorded which means guaranteed next day delivery....umm no...!)

If problem buyers stay with eBay, and everyone else with at least half a brain leaves...then we'll both be happy.

Let's imagine you have a feedback total of 1000. And it took a lot of work.

You've been on eBay for 10 years, with 100 sales a year.

If the feedback proposals are implemented in May:

    April 30th - 1000 fb total
    May 1st - 100 fb total

Sure, you might retain a 100% score, but don't plan on keeping that for long...
So, does eBay honestly think that sellers who have been around for that long are just going to roll over when they see this has happened?? :rotfl:

This isn't correct. The total score is not changing. It is in fact going to be increased as repeat feedback from same users will now be counted and will also be counted retrospectively, this is supposed top be completed in May. The majority of feedback scores will thus be rising.

The 12 month aspect is for your percentage score for feedback NOT your feedback tally.

If as per your above example, you receive 110 feedback per year, 10 from repeat buyers, your current score would be 1000 after ten years, with the new rules it would be 1100. The repeat feedback does not count if left from same user in a week, otherwise it does.

Like I've said numerous times... why dont google do an auction site grrrrrrrr.... or why dont they buy a site like ebid or tazbar and up the ante on it

Or.... if Microsoft's planned purchase of Yahoo goes ahead they could resurrect Yahoo auctions which I preferred to Ebay anyway. (Yahoo auctions are still alive and well in Singapore, checkout the format here http://sg.auctions.yahoo.com/ )

Alternatively, it's not an auction site (more of a classified ad site with pictures) but I quite like preloved.co.uk especially as if you place your ad via Quidco you actually get paid 10p for each ad you place (much better than paying Fleebay for the privilege).

p.s Ebays new search is rubbish too

    * Oh and the worst type: the buyers who SHOUT and call you an idiot in e-mails. I recently had one chap send me a printed cheque, and claim it was the same as a banker's draft (it's not, printed cheques can still be stopped). Then he sends very abusive e-mails along the lines of: "YOU ARE AN IDIOT. YOU NEED TO SCRUB UP ON THE BANKING SYSTEM, C***WIT".

Most (Probably all) banks will not clear funds immediately on a building society cheque or a bankers draft. They can both be stopped by the issuing bank/society and have both had cases of forgeries.

    Anyway back to Ebay changes........
