I WAS also a Pipex customer, for over 6 years.

Since Tiscali got hold of them their service went down hill.

I rang to complain and ask for the Mac code.. I was offerred a personal account manger and £5 off per month..

I left them anyway, joined SKY upto 16mb.. My connection speed has increased from 4.2mb (max 8mb) to 6.6mb (max 16mb) so thrilled to bits.

Also chuffed with the torrent speeds was getting connections of around 100kb/s max, now getting around 400kb/s.. Best thing I did was leave money grabbing Pipex/Tiscali!
I would have used my own initiative if someone would have told me to!

Hey guys, I'm looking to perhaps go with the ISP called Pipex, a number of friends have recommended them to me and say they've always had good service with the company and their Internet too. Has anyone else used/dealt with them and if so what are they like?

i have! they used to be great, i'm guessing your friends have low standards?

to be fair, if you only need the internet for browsing (absolutely no p2p and very little downloading, ideally no streaming video unless you don't mind hitting the pause button), and you can guarantee you'll never need CS, they they'll be ok

Taken over by Tiscali and service reliability rock bottom.

Our connection lasts for exactly 12 hours, then stops, the modem indicates Ip address and connections.

Have been complaining for nearly 2 weeks and it still is not fixed.

Line was OK until Tiscali moved the connections from BT equipment to their own, and then our upload speed went from 448 to 288 and after complaining about connection problem our download connection has gone from 8160 to 4096, and we are only 120 yards from the exchange.

We were told their equipment only supports 288 for uplink, that's a lie to start with.

We want to leave but they say we have to pay for the remainder of the 12 months !!!!!

They used to be absolutely fantastic and we had nothing but praise for them.

Then they got bought out by Tiscali last year and we had slow speeds/outages/crap customer services.

We're with Sky now and have much faster speeds than we did even when Pipex were good!

There is quite a good review of nearly all the ISPs here including the smaller ones.

    http://www.ispreview.co.uk/index.shtml

Here is the list starting at A

And here is the Pipex review

I would endorse this view and those posters comments so far.

I have just come on this forum looking for a new ISP because I have been with Pipex for many years but recently I have had trouble connecting. On one occasion I connected using a neighbours ISP and checked the Pipex online service status. This reported that all was fine. However, when I rang the technical service number it said they were experiencing some connection problems.

Time to leave them.... but need to find an alternative. A couple of people around here have moved to TalkTalk which was just over £16 which included free off peak calls, line rental and internet. I know TalkTalk also have bad customer service but I'd rather pay £16 for it than £10.50 to BT and £14.99 to Pipex. However, a bit of trawling and I hope to find something with a etter balance in terms of price and customer service.

I can only echo what others have said. I have ben with Pipex for 5 years at least. They used to be great. In the last 12 months they have hit rock bottom. Service is appalling, customer service non existent, speeds reducing everyday,. I cant wait to leave in june.
