Pipex?

I've just a phone call from Pipex.

Current situation:
BT line rental £11
IDNet £19 per month for 8MB/s rate and 2GB limit (£1 per Gig after that)
Primus £5 per month, free evening and weekend calls

Total £35

Offer:
£21 per month for line rental, 7 MB/s broadband and unlimited evening and weekend calls.

So I could save £14 per month.

I've just taken a look at ADSLGuide.org and IDNet trounce Pipex in terms of speed, reliability and customer support. So I'm probably going to stay put. I just wondered what opinions were regarding Pipex.

I found this via google, second option £21 per month.

  • you're with IDnet, one of the best, and you're seriously considering changing to tipex (one of the worst) to save a few quid (£3/week, price of a pint)? i know this is a money saving board, but there have to be limits...

check links in my sig, if you have sky tv or an o2 mobile you may have a sensible alternative

Idnet are fine if you're a very light user.

Pipex are fine if you're nuts. Really, I can't stress just how bad these guys are. From blocking ports to throttling you down to a horrendous speed, overcrowding on their pipes, useless customer service, useless billing, just general uselessness. Every ISP Tiscali get their claws into, they ruin.

If you can get the LLU offerings from Be or O2 or UKonline or, possibly, Sky where you are, I'd go for one of them.

I chose IDNet after a lot of searching around.

So, basically, Pipex are so desperate for business that they're cold calling. They're going to phone back in a few days time, so it would be handy to have some expert knowledge to impart to them!

    As everyone else says avoid.

I've just left Pipex, they were once a good ISP but now they are awful. They offered me what on the face of it was a fantastic deal to stay. tbh I'd rather pay more and get a good, fast internet connection.
Hark at you going all strict :D
  • I left Pipex 2 weeks ago and they still haven't refunded the money (£24.99) they took for January. They're liars and the service stinks.

Which is why you cancel the direct debit and ask them to send you out a paper bill.

Then, when you get it, phone them up and ask for a correct one.

    Rinse and repeat.
