I refuse to lose the full deposit plus 3 months premiums
Just wondering, but why did you agree to that condition in the first place?
I guess you've learnt a lesson but it's best to check cancellation terms (and a load of other things) up front.
I don't know the Ombudsmans view on this or whether there has been a test case, but it's 99% likely that you actually DID agree to this condition.0 -
123-djc - search this board for Quinn. They are a law unto themselves and have fallen foul of the regulators in the past.
The general advice on this board is don't touch them with a bargepole but people are tempted by the initially low premium.0 -
Just a note to warn people who've recently bought a policy from AA's new basic insurance scheme. We searched through the gocompare website for comprehensive car insurance and this policy came up cheapest for us.
It did have some limitations (no courtesy car, windscreen cover etc.) but did have the big bonus of a £zero excess (voluntary £0 and compulsory £0).
When the documents came through, it turned out that there was a £500 excess for fire, theft and malicious damage. We called up and the person checked and thought that accidental damage should also have had a £500 excess.
They did agree that neither were what we thought we were buying and they are looking into it and will hopefully get back to us soon.
Moneysavingexpert people are probably very good at checking their documents, but just thought I'd highlight the issue.

My partner was quoted £47.47 per month with a deposit of gbp110.00 on a provisional licence, totalling around £670. When she called them to advise she had passed her test they re calculated her premium and it now became £384 per month totalling a massive £2990 for the year! When we queried this they advised that she was now a higher risk hence the upgrade in premium!
This was a 400% hike in the price and when we asked them for a refund on the grounds of utter shock they refused outright.
This is now with the Financial Ombudsman for investigation as I refuse to lose the full deposit plus 3 months premiums through Quinn-directs underhand tactics!
New drivers be aware......
Martin and the team any advice?
I had a quote from them for my son, who is 17 on Thursday. They said that it was for a provisional license only and that when he passed I could claim back the remaining 'unspent' months, without an admin fee.
Now, this sounded like a very good deal to me - why will they not allow you to do the same?
I'm now a bit concerned about what I am signing up for!0 -
Sounds like blarney to me, ask the operator you spoke to confirm it in writing!0

I'm 29, just passed my test, looking to insure a 1990 BMW 318 (I know!!) and Admiral/Bell are quoting me about £1141 for a ten month accelerator policy, including an 'online discount'. That's fine, but if I want to pay them monthly, which I do, they say they remove the online discount and add an 8.5% fee for the credit extended.
That brings the policy up to £1800, or to be exact £179.38 or so a month!!
I think this is a punitive charge - even allowing for the 8.5% that must mean the online discount is something like 40%. Hardly seems likely. In fact, it looks more like an arbitrary 50% is added onto the original policy (including the 8.5%) when you try to pay them monthly.
I'm reluctant to be taken like this, but what can I do?0 -
I recently worked through Martin's car insurance tips and saved but have one to add myself.
My dad suggested that I try to add him as a named driver to see if that saved anymore money, it did. I saved another £20, Yay!
So if you have an older friend or relative why not add them and see if you can save too!
Thanks dad :money:0 -
im 25yrs old . i haveno no claims bonus . clean driving record & my insurance is 1000 pound for a ford focus 1.6 litre , why is this?

Hi,
My car was written off after accident and the other person's insuarance wrote it off. My insurance cancelled my cover as I had cancelled the direct debit but now they are claiming that I should pay all the money for the remainder of the contract which is nearly £400 and cancellation fee. My argument is that I should not be paying this as I no longer have the car but theyare insisting that I should pay it and they are going to send debt collectors. Is this legal and what can I do to prevent them getting my money I think this is robbery.0
