    Hi,

just got my renewal from Prudential. It turms out to be ~£80 more than last year. After a quick phone call they are willing to reduce by £50. However this is still more than last year and a lot more than what others can quote me. I could save £120 by moving to Endsleigh, Esure or Swiftcover. I don't know much about those companies (except Esure and their adverts) and I've made sure all the details are identical for each quote and that the services would be identical.

Which one would you recommend (or not) the most?

Note: I have a full EU license for nearly 11 years, 6 years no claim

It seems that the cheap quote provided by Endsleigh is related to my job. Endsleigh has branches thoughout the universities in England and as I work in a university this is probably why it was cheaper than anyone else. I shall go and have a chat with them tomorrow.

Pl can you tell me how you got on with Endsleigh? I am shopping for car insurance as well and it's between Endsleigh or M&S. I have used Endsleigh travel ilnsurance through STA for my son and they are excellent with claims. Also I have noticed if I use moneysaving expert website link to these companies, the quotes are cheaper. I have used endsleigh website and quote a more expensive quote. M&S is premium and offer uk breakdown but since I am already with AA, I do not think I need it. Thanks

    Hi Loulou,

went and spoke to the one of the guy at my local Endsleigh branch. I needed to clarify about my EU license and the NCD obtained on both side of the channel. He confirmed the quote I had from the website (for me both Confused, !!!!!!!!! and endlseigh gave me identical quote - but i think one of the comparitive website did not include the protected NCD). He also said that THEY will contact my current provider for the NCD proof which is less hassle for me. I signed with them a few hours after that.

Note: when you get your quote from endlseigh you can click to have a full quote. This opens a pdf document and you will see that the insurer used for the particular quaote (HSBC, DAS Legal... and Sterling Insurer in my case).

    Hope this helps.
  • I'm a big fan of shopping around to find a good deal but last year I got a bit obsessed and spent days getting what I thought was the absolute best deal with Elephant (though, I think I could have saved even more looking back on it).

The thing was - I *almost* got the best deal straight away and in fact only managed to save another £6 with my hours of shopping so this year I'm going to allocate a maximum insurance shopping time to increase my £s saved per hour.

Seems that they all sneak in this "auto renewal" these days. Direct Line have just tried to charge me a £26 "admin fee" after I called them today to advise I was not renewing. I tried to call them yesterday on the renewal date but after 20 mins on the phone gave up. After some "discussion" the operator agreed to waive this charge but was adamant that that I was responsible for the charge as it was in the T's & C's of my original policy. Guess who won't be going to them again. The wife's policy will also be moving at renewal date..

If you are a young driver, take "Pass Plus" lessons, it costs about £300, but insurance companies will, most of the time give you a 30% discount.

They dont usually ask you if you have it, so you have to tell them about it.

Direct Line takes 30% off for the 1st year.

but it saved me no money

I just tried my husband's everyday car with his classic insurer as suggested above and it came out £200 higher than his £246 renewal AFTER 2nd car discount!

Hi All, beware Quinn-direct Insurance. They are an insurance company in Ireland who advertise fantastic rates for provisional drivers and then when you pass your test your premium rockets up.

My partner was quoted £47.47 per month with a deposit of gbp110.00 on a provisional licence, totalling around £670. When she called them to advise she had passed her test they re calculated her premium and it now became £384 per month totalling a massive £2990 for the year! When we queried this they advised that she was now a higher risk hence the upgrade in premium!

This was a 400% hike in the price and when we asked them for a refund on the grounds of utter shock they refused outright.

This is now with the Financial Ombudsman for investigation as I refuse to lose the full deposit plus 3 months premiums through Quinn-directs underhand tactics!

    New drivers be aware......

Martin and the team any advice?
