They mentioned reason:  The damage to your vehicle is not consistent with the reported incident circumstances.
My understanding is if policy is cancelled then it should say Uninsured on Askmid but it says insured. So I am bit confused my policy is really cancelled or not!

MID is not realtime and the claims department almost certainly will say your policy will be cancelled and then pass it across to underwriting/servicing department to actually do the cancellation itself which may not be instantaneous either.

I would have thought you'd have had some conversations with them about the discrepancy between accident circumstances and presented damage... too much room for human error otherwise in you possibly mixing up near/off side, FNOL adviser poorly summarising the details etc etc
  • Hello,
I am wondering if anyone can help, I have bought a new car which I am collecting in a couple of days but my insurance for my current car won’t change my insurance over as they have said the car has too high a value for my age (i am 23yo and the car is worth 11k) however my insurance is up for renewal in less 3 weeks. Can I include the no claims discount that I have gained if I just start the policy for my new car before my insurance for this year expires?
    Thank you

I did as Martin said and got a quote from comparison sites etc 21 days before due and my renewal was cheapest for what I wanted. I logged on the day before it was due to be renewed to find it £97 cheaper. Contacted the company ( as I had already paid) and got a refund - no problem when I said that I would cancel my policy and get a new policy using the 14day cool- off. Issue sorted straight away. So it's worth checking even on the day or the day after to see if price has gone down.

I am having an issue with RAC car insurance. We had both cars insured with then and they were due for renewal at the end of June. The fees were more of less the same as the past year.  Having heard on MSE that insurance fees have dropped a lot in the past year I use the comparison sites to compare. The RAC renewal for each are was about £400 each but the best offers on the comparison site were £143 and £165 which gave a massive saving of some £500! Thus I took out the new insurance. Interestingly RAV appeared on the comparison site £100 cheaper than they quoted me. I understood it was illegal to to offer new customers a lower fee than renewals? The problem was how to cancel the RAC one. The way this broker operates is only by phone. You can't email them.  I went to my bank and cancelled the direct debit. I tried several times to ring them and was getting no reply after long waits. I then wrote by post to cancel and complain. Since then I have had increasingly threatening emails and letters saying I owe £55 per policy cancelation fee plus what was due (after i had cancelled) per policy even mentioning my credit rating.
I see on various review sites that RAC insurance have a huge number of complaints and even on their  own Face Book page they don't bother to answer comments on there.
Any suggestions as to where I stand?   I would certainly advise anyone to avoid them like the plague

You've misunderstood. The new regs don't take effect until next year.

The cancellation fees seem in the right ballpark, plus there is the time you were insured, which was not cancelled by simply cancelling the DD.
