    defaqto only seems to show very limited details of cover (around 5). You still need to plough through each policy document in turn to really compare.

    And I don't really understand what the defaqto star ratings are based on since a) the policy details they compare are so limited and b) often it's an optional add-on

    I've seen 5* defaqto policies with less cover than a 1*. How does that work? Unless they are looking at customer service too, which you say they don't.

    Ah well - you want research done do it yourself!

    Make sure there is not an old claim left open even if you were not at fault. I was suprised to find Axa authorised a repair on my old vectra last October for £895 on a car with a declaired value of just £450. I thought this was all sorted last October. I only realised it was still open ( and the cost) when I got my proof of no claims (14 years) and esure put an extra £35 on the value of quote, meaning I might as well have stayed with Axa.

    This proved that your present insurance company will up your premium even though it's their job to recover costs when you were not at fault for the accident.

    In short, make sure a 'not your fault' claim is closed before your insurance renewal comes around. Also as you have to declair any accidents in the last 3 years I think my quotes will be higher even though I wasn't at fault which seems like another rip off.

    This is one of the reasons why you should consider only claiming off your own insurer when you are in any way to blame.


    You cannot "make sure" any claim is closed off prior to renewal, as your insurer will only close the claim (and more importantly restore any temporarily lost NCD) when they have been fully recompensed.


    (And check how long a history you are asked to give - the "norm" is 5 years rather than 3, but the range is 3/5 years dependent on which insurer you deal with)

    Aside from the obvious spam, your website breaches all kinds regulatory requirements. Data Protection for one.


    Also anyone handing over payment to a company that lists its address as a PO Box needs their head feeling.


    No company registration details, no VAT number (although you do add VAT to your charge), no privacy policy etc etc etc.


    The site isn't even secure!

    I used Go Compare because our previous police via RAC hadn't the option of adding cover for driving in the EU - even though we had done that previously. RAC do deals which may vary and be mire limiting than the actual provider e.g.Co-op. Via Go Compare we found an equivalent policy with the option to add trips in EU up to 180days at half the price that RAC quoted on renewal for shorter duration.
  • Keeping track of when me and my family are all due to renew our insurance quotes can become a really time consuming task for someone with a large family like mine. Last year was the first time that I used fleet insurance and it provided such great piece of mind by allowing me to combine all the individual policies with one single renewal date. In addition, there’s plenty of comparison sites around such as Admiral or what I used was Fleet Compare which was of great help to me to make finding the best quote even easier.
  • I passed my test last year, checked on all the comparison websites for a general idea of price. For a Renault Clio, it was coming out over £1500 for standard insurance!! Do they think we're made of money?!

    Ended up going with coverbox.co.uk in the end - came out just over £800 with the promise of a further discount if I drove well. They sent me driving updates every month on how I could improve my driving (which didn't really bother me because I wasn't too bad of a driver anyway). Overall got a 79/100 in my first year and saved £200 when I renewed so was pretty chuffed.
    I had a few reservations about going with a telematics company to begin with but I believe the savings were well worth the pitfalls.

    We have just sold our daughters Mini. I had it insured with Lancaster Insurance for 66 days for the purpose of selling it. The premium total paid was £253 for the year. They took £70 non refundable upfront admin fee. They took £50 cancellation fee. The underwriters judged £129 pounds of the premium cover had been used (66 days of 365!).

    My refund was £17. Robbing thieves. No recourse, but was offered a refund of the £50 admin if I insured our replacement vehicle with them. NOT A CHANCE.

    I also just sold our T4 Campvervan. This had been insured for 32 days with Safeguard / Swinton at a cost of £311. They charged £25 cancellation fee.

    My refund was £213. Reasonable deal. Would use them again.

    AVOID LANCASTER INSURANCE / AGEAS

    My son has a course to attend and has no car or insurance of his own.

    I am wondering if I ask the insurance company how much to add him for only two weeks they might b helpful or is there another cheaper way to do this....he is 31years old with full driving license...has no insurance as was covered on the policy of the company he previously worked for.

    Will even asking Sainsbury my insurers cause problems?

    Appreciate any advise.....thanks
