I have my car insurance with More Than who aren't the greatest company but often are the cheapest. I drive a Jag with 7 years NCB and also have a van with 7 years NCB with the same company.
My wife has been insured provisionally on both vehicles for as long as I can remember and neither of us have any claims / convictions. I'm 29 and she is 28 and has just now passed her driving test.
She now has a 998cc 2005 corsa and we're getting quotes of £1,280 for one off payment with Admiral and for monthly installments they remove the online discount which is around the £300 then the 8% interest which is incredible.
I insure a large performance saloon, a tranny van and my house and she's insured as a full license holder on all and this costs jsut £100 per month which i'm happy with but for a tiny corsa round the £1.5k mark that's incredible, for the sake of curiosity I stated that we had no children and it was £300 cheaper, strange becuase you would have thought drivers with young children were much more careful, not and extra premium for possibly being distracted.
I've shopped and shopped around and employed all the tactics i've read about here and that's as cheap as I can get without becoming dodgy and giving questionable facts to the insurers.
Companies won't mirror either of my NCB because she's only just passed, even though she has 10+ years of driving experiance.
We do drive the corsa equally however, shorter trips she will drive and the occasional longer I will so it's questionable as to who is the main driver but obviously i'd like her to start accumulating her own NCB. Pass Plus in this case won't do any good as it's really only for < 25 year olds.
Help, I just cannot understand why I can insure her on a large performance car for practically nothing extra but for something small on her own, or even with me it's crazy money0 -
Yes Car insurance took £246 of my money. I was sent a letter to say they had no proof of my 9 years no claims bonus and were going to deduct this amount on 17th may because I now had" STARTER" status. The letter was dated May 4 and I received it on May 12 !!! I acted immediately (MAY 12) and emailed the proof . Hard copy in the post. On monday 16 I phoned to check the NCD had been registered and asked for confirmation the money had not been taken. They said not. However my bank account had already been raided. I rang today and was told they "lodged a request" for the money on May 12 before I could even respond. Although apparently the money will be refunded it could take 5 days. My bank says if a company has your bank details -long number plus security number they can take the extra and the bank cannot stop them (as long as the company tells you--making sure of course that you have not got time to do anything about it!) Moral :NEVER EVER buy anything over the phone giving your card details-send a cheque. or use direct debit-You are able to cancel that. I am disgusted and appalled. BEWARE ! Your card details are being stored.0

Hi,
My car insurance is due for renewal on 1st September and I'm looking to buy a new (used) car. Ideally I'd like to spend some time looking at the options, but I'm concerned that if I get new insurance, then get a new car shortly afterwards the insurance company will take the opportunity to hike up the price dramatically, since I don't have an alternative but to pay it.
Does anyone have experience of changing a car early in the insurance year? And does anyone know whether it might be worth getting temporary car insurance while I look for a new car?
Thanks in advance to anyone that can help me with this!0 -
I dont think the time of changing to a new car makes any difference. I changed towards the end of the policy with Direct Line and my insurance became £150 more expensive than anyone else.
Waited with gritted teeth until the end of the policy and shopped around... went to Admiral Multi Car policy and saved a £150 a year - result! :j0 -
Hi guys!
I'm trying to renew my dads car insurance and am quite angry last week through money supermarket I was quoted £313 which was amazing so we were planning on buying it this week, know it seems all the quotes are deleted and morethan have said even though the quote is valid till January the cannot take it! All the other quotes are over £600 so you can see why I am angry! But I guess its my fault for not buying it straight away have learnt my lesson for next time!
Ok so my dad has had his license for 25 years and has 11 year NCD and he has never made a claim, oh and his 47. I just don't get why it's so high I have found a quote for £500 from e-choice which are a partner with morethan but I'm not quite sure about them!
thanks hope someone will reply by tomorrow its just I am renewing it by tomorrow at latest!
Also read somewhere that this time of year prices soar, so would it be best if he paid my monthly installments till like may so he could change the month he generally pays in thanks!0 -
How can our insurance company declare it a 'fault' claim when someone steals onto our drive and rips out our catalytic converter? I don't remember putting up a sign saying 'help yourself'!
They know through our insurance application what security measures our vehicle has and where it is kept. Presumably they already charge us accordingly and based on the safety of the area we live in.
Will this increase our insurance policy next year?0 -
When insurers refer to "fault" and "non fault" this does not refer to blame.
It refers to whether or not the insurer was able to recover their costs from a third party.
Your claim is a fault claim as your insurer has no-one to pursue to reimburse them.
Your premium will be loaded nect year, and if you have any unprotected NCD, then this will also be reduced.
No NCD will be awarded for the current year.0 -
Hi. I'm comfused about what would constitute unemployment or self employment for my car insurance. I do some one-off contracts occasionally on a self-employed basis, but the rest of the time I'm allowed to claim Job Seekers Allowance and a proportion of my Mortgage Protection Insurance. Can I legitimately class myself as self employed on my car insurance? The premiums for Unemployed are just crazy, but I don't want to end up uninsured in the event of a claim.
Thanks for your help!

Speak to your chosen insurer and explain all this to them, and get them to confirm your employment status in writing so that should you need to claim in future they cannot renege if they have allowed you to be "self employed" for the full year despite your periods of unemployment.0

Hi guys, I'm looking at car insurance for a Mazda MX-5, but due to my age (19) and 0 no claims, I have so far been unsuccessful (quotes in excess of £16000) and I don't even have any convictions... preposterous prices if you ask me, considering I want to do most driving with an owners club!
I have been looking into buying a car in Poland and having it registered and insured to a Polish address (rooms are mega cheap to rent there), and taking it to the UK for periods of 6 months, which is what many Polish citizens seem to be doing. I managed to get a quote for £200 for the year, which is fantastic, but I'm just concerned as to whether or not this is legal in case I got pulled by UK Police.
Does anybody have any sort of idea about how this would work and if I would be able to do this?
Thanks, Adam0
