Hi, Can anyone tell me how to make chicken soup from scratch please? I have some chicken thigh bones with quite a bit of meat on them (I am making a curry) and also some whole chicken thighs. But I have never done anything with them before I normally just throw them away. How do I get the meat of the bone and how do I then make it into soup!!? :embarasse .

    Many thanks in advance

Been there, done it...........but it was quite liquidy, you might want to add some thickeners.

Thanks for all the wonderful advice in this thread.

I've bought all the veg to make vegetable soup in my slow cooker tomorrow...but after reading this thread I'm going to use the carcass from tonights chicken roast to make a chicken stock. I've never done it before so I hope it turns out OK. I've placed the carcass and about a litre of water in my slow cooker, and I'm leaving it in my slow cooker overnight on low.

Evening OS'rs! Sorry to double post.

Well I took the plunge and made my chicken stock and turned it into a delicious smelling chicken & vegetable soup - here it is cooking away in my slow cooker:

I have a question regarding food poisoning risks.
The chicken was left over from a roast last night. The carcass and a few scraps of chicken that were clinging to the bones, have then been cooked again in the stock, and again in the soup. If I chill it in the fridge or freezer, is this still going to be ok to reheat and eat? As many of you seem to make soup from chicken stock in this way, I'm assuming it is ok:confused:

    Thanks for any advice.

I would cool the soup first before chilling it in the frig- sounds delicious. The chicken is only a day old so shouldnt be a problem.

  • Made my first chicken soup today, I think it's going to be a regular now that f/r chicken seems to be cheaper. Brilliant thread as I didn't know where to start. I chucked some lentils in with mine and am making bread rolls as we speak. That diet's getting bumped for yet another day :D
