No problem. Usual rules apply - reheat thoroughly - piping hot throughout... which means a minimum temperature of 72°C

I strip the chicken of the meat, we generally finish it between the four of us but otherwise cool the leftover meat quickly off the bone, and refrigerate.
Stick the bones and some water (about half covering the bones) in the pressure cooker and bring up to high pressure (loud hissing) then turn the temperature down and cook for 30 mins. De pressure, strain into large wide mixing bowl and stand bowl in water in sink, cooling as quickly as possible. About three hours later when cold I decant into smaller jugs and put in the fridge or the freezer. Then use as normal.

I am quite fussy about salmonella possibilities and don't like to take chances.

It also doesnt take all day like the slow cooker - which I love to use for other things! HTH

I've just finished boiling my bones from Sundays roast chicken.:D

I like my chicken soup more like a broth.

    As for a recipe. :o
I use the same ingredients each time just never sure of the quantities. I basically just add the amount I wish.

    1 onion
    4-6 carrots
    1-2 potatos
    4-6 stalks of celery
all diced to roughly the same size
    1-2 tablespoon of pearl barley

    season with salt and pepper.

I'm sure other have alot more variations. Just try them out till you find the one you like.

Forgot to say how to make the stock.:o

I boil the bones in 2 1/2 to 3 pint of water for an hour or more. (20 minutes in a pressure cooker)

Some may onions and veg at this point to flavour the stock.

Thanks for this - I've not bought a whiole chicken since we moved in together as I didn't want to waste anything (still nervous about picking it to death) but now I might try - I love chicken soup!
  • Thanks Rikki, i have written it all down and will give it a go, it sounds good!
My mum never taught me how to cook so i have had to teach myself so now i can cook alot better than i used to. I used to be a jars and packet person but now I love to make things myself. :T

The beauty of cooking for yourself is if you don't like something. Don't put it in. The ingredient choices are up to you.

Something you've always fancied but wouldn't buy from a shop because it had **** in it you can make at home without. :j

Remember not everything works first time and somethings just don't work at all. We've all had some of them. :o

  • I have part of a cooked organic chicken left and I wondered if I could use it to make chicken soup? I can't find any recipes in any of my books and wondered if any of you OSers could help me?

    Thank you :A
