Although their attitude so far seems to be that if they know the colour of the door that's proof enough they tried delivery. I can imagine them claiming they didn't take notice of what was written and simply "posted the card".

I Hate City Link with a passion. They tried to use that door colour trick last time I had the misfortune to have them as the courier of items that I had bought. They did not seem in the slightest bit bothered that the door colour for the two alledged attempts at delivery were both different (black on 1st attempt and red on 2nd) neither of which are correct as it is a natural wood door and light brown!
  • I hate citylink - they are such complete liars! The say they have been when they have not just to meet their targets - I now refuse to order anything if I remember to check who is delivering and its them .....barstewards!
I have had brain surgery - sorry if I am a little confused sometimes ;)

Thinking about whether I should only consider Friday's attempt as fake, I've come to the conclusion that I'm going to consider Friday as a "no attempt" either. Although I can't say 100% that there was no attempt (unlike Monday where I actually saw them not deliver) I'm going to consider it so, if there was no card. If they "ran out of cards" then that's their problem and highlights deficiencies in their system not mine. So from now on I'm taking a hard line with no card, no real delivery. And there's no excuse good enough for there not to be a card.

Well you're really not going to believe this. Ten minutes ago I got a phone call from someone a couple of streets away saying there's a City Link guy there looking for our address, so I gave directions. He turned up a couple of minutes later in a courtesy hire van. He explained that he hasn't been in the area in about two years and after his shift was told to take this parcel to us and make sure we get it because there's been "some problems" with failed deliveries. I told him exactly what those "problems" were that there were no delivery attempts and the van that turned up to apparently simply note the colour of the door. And definitely no cards. He seemed surprised but credit to him he didn't seem to disbelieve me. He said he had another parcel to deliver (a couple of towns over) for similar continuous failed delivery problems. So at least we've got our parcel now, but what a shambles of a system!!!!

I video'd the the drop off (just in case) and my conversation with the guy (digital camera set to video record poking out of jeans pocket, didn't get a picture but got all the audio which was important bit). Going to have to get in habit of recording EVERYTHING.

what weight are you putting in your recording?
tbh i dont think you should be recording someone doing their job.
regardless of problems your recording someone who is out trying to ratify the problem.

For my own accuracy. In this case nothing, but I didn't know what the guy was going to say until he said it or if he was the one who claimed to have made the delivery attempts. I can record any conversation I like that I'm a participant of. I know perfectly well what I am and am not allowed to do as far as recording conversations go. In this particular case I wanted to make absolutely sure I knew exactly what was said. It's almost impossible to actually remember afterwards, especially if it's something that's quite emotional/makes you angry etc.

I'm probably going to have to record all my telephone conversations afterwards as well to have an accurate record, chronology and identity of those on the phone. It would definitely have been useful in hindsight to be able to recall back precisely what I was told word for word.

What did you think I was going to use the recording for?

I am saddened to read all the problems have had with CL.

I posted mine on another thread and followed superscaper's link here.

Why are City Link such out and out liars? (By the way I don't use the word liar as an opinion, it is a fact)
It must be some sort of company policy, after all those of us who have had problems don't all live in the same street, neighbourhood or even the same town.

There must be some collusion within the company going on, and it can't be just to p!ss off customers, there must, as others have suggested be a financial reward involved.

I will always check courier used by a company now and if it is CL then I will not buy/order the product. They only way to effect change is by hitting them in the pocket.
We all evolve - get on with it

I think what I may do is offer the retailer an opportunity first (if it's a good/cheap retailer) to let me use a different courier. May involve a bit more work by having to contact them first before ordering but at least gets the point across about the "why" I may not shop with them if I say something along the lines of "can you deliver my order for x with any courier other than CL, if not thank you for your time but I'll go elsewhere".
