Buildings & Contents Insurance Discussion

Good timing for us too, Martin. We followed the earlier trial article - followed comparison websites but all were blown away by a local IFA who came up with a policy from Paymentshield that covers
"Cover for the building up to £300,000 (including accidental damage) and for the contents up to £40,000 (including accidental damage)" for "£198.54 in the first year. The company would take nothing for the first three months, then would take £22.06 per month on a Direct debit."
I know the monthly payment is not the best moneysaving option, but we got the first 3 months free, the commitment is for a year, then pay monthly until we ask to stop. It works for us and is still cheaper than all the other quotes we got. I think the first 3 months free is an IFA sweetner.Beckipeg

Yeah its Paymentshield I have my current policy with, and in fact they still beat the others on renewal.
- in fact no commitment, but your broker/IFA would have some of his commission clawed back, the commitment is for a year,
Paymentshield have standard product terms, but use different insurers for different postcodes . In some areas they come up really good- in others they are way out.
So yes suggest as well as using moneysupermarket, Liv Vic etc, people also look at paymentshield
( if you don't already have a trusted broker with an agency just google paymentshield- for a broker , as they don't sell direct )
At moment they don't sell direct anyway ( just via IFas and insurance brokers ) - in fact they have 2 products 3month free or 5% discountI think the first 3 months free is an IFA sweetner.
although my site gives details on getting both the 3m free and a further 5% discountAny posts on here are for information and discussion purposes only and shouldn't be seen as (financial) advice.0 -
And, as usual, Northern Ireland is excluded from the insuresupermarket.com comparison site. This is a system account and does not represent a real person. To contact the Forum Team email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0

Payless,
I tried the HL quote system. I had to call them as we live on the coast.
First quote was ver £400 for bdgs and contents. Told them it was too much and told the guy i was an existing HL customer, so he said he could do it for £365.
hence, worth haggling with HL over a quote.0 -
anyone have any contact details for paymentshield?0

Just got a quote from Direct Line. Pretty much half the price of all the others I tried. Policy seems fully equiped too. Got a 20% discount due to car ins being with them but still good value. This is a system account and does not represent a real person. To contact the Forum Team email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0

Hi, Just to add my thanks to Martin - I'd just read the forum when this years renewal popped through the door. As a result of shopping around on the web (spent about an hour) I've now got cover from the Halifax at a whopping 54% reduction over what I was quoted for renewal by my previous provider!!This is a system account and does not represent a real person. Whoever brought up the name Paymentshield thankyou very, very much - they have just blown away Liv Vic by a whacking 53% saving me £132.43 on my b&hc insurance. I had to push them a little for 3 months free cover (Asked if there was any discount for being a first time customer)and I even get to pay monthly by DD at no extra charge! ;D
Re-building £300,000 max (£500,000 Liv Vic) - down but only need £115,000 anyway.
Contents £40,000 max (£125,000 Liv Vic) - down but adequate and should cover me.
Surprising how many insurers will not cover contents over £35,000 geting low at today's prices I feel.0 -
I found payment shield quote very good, but not as good as New Homes Insurance via money supermarket.
tel No is 01403-321303 they are GISC members too.
more than £30 cheaper than payment and they will refund the £25 admin fee that the mortgage co require!0
