Just to stick my oar in, I would too agree with those who consider this to be a minor irritant, one of those things which happen to contribute to having a "bad day". However the chances are that a friendly, sympathetic apology from a manager at the time would have prevented the OP (and other customers) from complaining.
Whilst working for Halfords many years ago, I did a few weeks at head office in Redditch (housed in a truly horrible 1970's style building which was almost identical to my truly horrible 1970's style school building), I read through hundreds of complaint letters about all sorts of things - dodgy products, poor service, bike fell on head etc and in almost every one was the line "no one even said sorry" or similar.
Let's face it - mistakes and accidents happen and if someone apologises to you for a minor problem that should be that if you have not been too inconvenienced.
If I had been the store manager I would have ensured there was a staff member at the door to greet customers and say "sorry, we're having a few problems with the gutters, just watch your step. Sorry." and smile sweetly!0 -
I don't really know the legal issues here, but can anyone advise on the legal meaning of sorry. I.e., does saying sorry count as an admission of liability? I know for example, from driving my university sports club around in minibuses, that if you are involved in an accident with another vehicle there are specific instructions that you must in no way apologise or admit liability. Just wondering if a store manager saying 'sorry' would also cause problems like this?0

As has been seen on these boards many times in the past, someone apologising is not enough for some people .. they are only interested in revenge or compensation. Whay waste an apology unless the person is gracious enough to accept it?

very true uvan, from my time working in a shop when ever you get a small problem almost the first words out of 75% of people are what compensation do I get?
It is just going totally stupid that people will not take any responcability for their own actions.JeremyMarried 9th May 20090
