The guttering couldn't cope because the building hadnt been maintained and, from the Manager's comments, it appears the rubbish had been in there for 5 years.

As I understand it, you have made your complaint to Head Office and if it is proven that the inpouring of water was due to a maintenance issue, then you will most likely get a handout for getting wet, which is as I read it your main objective. If the above is correct, only time will tell if the effort was worthwhile.

Helen, you have my full sympathy. My worst experience with Tesco was when I was leaving their property, having just filled my car with fuel, one of their advetisment signs blew over in the wind and caused over £300 of damage. I didnt have time to stop as was already late for a meeting so I left it there and then, took note of the time and later on made a written complaint to the store manager, who choose to ignore it for 4 weeks. It was only when I made my complaint to Head Office that any action was taken and the conclusion to the tale was far from satisfactory. The result is that whilst Tesco is the most proffitable supermarket in the country, they will never see a penny from my pocket again.

I think it would have been hilarious if they said you damaged their sign and drove off.

To clarify matters, only one exit from store. I only got wet leaving the store because of the rain coming in, my car was parked under the covered overhanging bit so I didn't have to go out into the rain to get into my car.

On the way out of the store, staff members were just stood there - the floor was soaking wet (obviously) swimming with water, an accident could easily have occurred and no members of staff give a damn.

I was annoyed because the Manager said the water had come into the store due to rubbish on the roof but couldnt understand that this was a maintenance issue and that the roof should be regularly cleaned to prevent this happening. He actually said the store has been open 5 years and it doesn't appear to have been cleaned in all that time!!!

I felt sad when I read Helen's comments. She went in to do her shopping only to be drenched on the way out.Maybe her hair had just be done, her makeup
had been ruined.Maybe she had her best dress on.
Ok there was a storm passing or it had just passed.I don't by the arguement
of rubbish. All you needed to say to Helen is just to wait before diving in.My kids would have loved to be there with there buckets.
Tesco even supplied the lifeguards.Next week they are doing a two swims for one offer.

    Truthfully?

Well........I think this is one of those things that are a bit of an annoyance but you accept and forget about it.

It was only water. It obviously was not intended by Tesco management that you should be soaked. It was an inconvenience, it didn't harm you and I don't see that you need to be recompensed tbh.

If it was me, it would end up being one of those 'funny stories' that you end up boring all your friends with.

However, I do appreciate that not everyone thinks the same way, so good luck with however far you choose to push this.

I have to agree with aliasojo I'm afraid

I understand you were annoyed about it at the time but it was just unfortunate, I wouldn't have taken matters any further myself and would have enjoyed a good laugh about it later (well after all my mates had finished taking the p*** that is lol)

I don't think Tesco should have to compensate you in any way, an apology from the store manager would have been more than enough for me, it really wasn't their fault, you just happened to be in the wrong place at the wrong time.

At the end of the day persuing claims against supermarkets only increases the prices that we all have to pay

  • Why do u perceive that the inpouring of water was not Tesco's fault. As per my earlier email, the inpouring of water was due to blocked gutters etc which had not been cleared of rubbish, clearly a maintenance issue.

you beleive Tesco are to blame, I personally don't see that they are, they didn't make it rain, they probably have not known that the gutters were blocked, where they blocked ? did you see that for yourself or was that just the explaination given. Are tesco personally responsible for clearing the gutters, is it not a maintenance company they employ, I don't have the answers to everything. But I can't honestly see why your getting yourself so upset about it. You got wet. thats it, no harm done. People died yesterday in London, I just think complaining about a mishap like this is a bit OTT

I'm not saying your wrong, I'm just saying we have differing opinions. In your position I would think myself lucky it wasn't anything serious, move on and notch it up to one of lifes up's and down's. But don't shop there again

it is tesco's fault - they failed to maintain the gutters properly and as a DIRECT CONSEQUENCE she got soaked.

Are you all plain thick or something? Of couse it's the stores fault - if they'd maintained the gutters and kept the roof clean then this wouldn't have happened.

I hope you get as much compensation as possible!! And it doesn't increase the price we pay. And it ISN'T off topic to talk about this because we can't keep banging on about london otherwise we are letting the terrorists win!

Out of interest, what do you feel would be a fair amount of compensation for getting wet? :)

OK.... Lets cut to the chase. You feel you have a compo claim.... Your claim by your own admission amounts to the little more than you getting wet, nothing more. So, what do you feel would be a fair amount of compensation to receive for, erm, well, getting wet? :)

Visited my local Tesco store on Thursday lunchtime and, just before I left, there was a heavy downpour. On my way out of Tesco with my shopping, the entrance door (about 10ft wide of it) was like Niagara falls, it was like walking through a wall of water - I got soaked!!!

Whilst I'm not the greatest fan of TESCO's management or Customer (lack of) services in Dundee, even I wouldn't blame them for this. You have clearly stated that there was a heavy downpour and it looked like Niagera falls - why did you walk through it then?, it's not as if you didn't see it!
