  • Just before I head for bed I thought I'd share a quote heard on the Aled Jones radio show on Sunday morning BBC Radio 2, which I thought was very appropriate to our MSE Family. "We are all different. We each of us have different qualities. We can make a difference by not being indifferent." Now aint that the truth?

Good night all, sleep well, pleasant dreams and may you wake in the morning to a better and brighter future than you did the day before

Rightio, nowt better than a bit of direct action, I found this and thought it incredibly apt given the circumstances.

    http://petitions.pm.gov.uk/Renthomes/

    It's a petition set up by L. Langford and states this;

We the undersigned petition the Prime Minister to Make affordable housing a reality for those
who cannot buy a home by bringing back council housing which uses a fair rent system and
to bring in measures to end the practice of selling off council/social housing to tenants at
reduced prices. This was originally a good idea but these homes are not being replaced like
for like, and the expression "affordable housing" is merely that, most new developments do
not contain "affordable housing" for those who are at minimum wage levels. More details

Submitted by L. Langford – Deadline to sign upby: 23 October 2008

If you agree than sign it. It'll take a minute or two and means that each of us that wish to,
    can actually do something.xx

Your absolutely right Triker, I have forwarded this petition onto my OH work, my family etc.
Its actually a personal thing as well for me, as my sister was almost classed as intentionally
homeless last year when she left her gambling, cheating b*stard of a husband after 17 years
of pure hell, anyway she is now back in the council house, after he threatened to kill her,
the police warned him to stay away and thats what hes done...250 miles away:D ...my sister
only slept on my brothers floor for 1 week, but god knows where she would have gone, if her OH hadn't have moved away....its a disgrace that vulnerable people in need cannot get help!

I blame the Iron lady for allowing the right to buy....woman generally don't do daft things, but she did..

I've posted details of the petition on the Crisis discussion forum. With any luck they might pick
it up and give it some more publicity.

While I was there I dug up this gem:
    Becoming homeless
    • The average time between the triggers that lead to homelessness and when
homelessness finally occurs is nine years
(Centre for the Analysis of Social Exclusion, Routes into Homelessness, 2000)
    • The four-week rule is the process by which newly homeless people become acclimatised to life on the street.
After that they become entrenched and it becomes more difficult for them to move back into mainstream society
    (Crisis, Homelessness Factfile, 1998).
In other words, when a person becomes homeless, it's the result of nine years of missed opportunities.
Then, after they finally become homeless, there's only four weeks to do something about it before it's too late.
    Not a nice thought.

OK then I will, its driving me nuts. I have this forum emailed to me and it was making my eyes go funny (at least they match the rest of me though)
Find out who you are and do that on purpose (thanks to Owain Wyn Jones quoting Dolly Parton)
