    It looks to us that those on the old Option 1 are getting a good deal by just opting for the rolling 12 month contract making them actually Option 2 for free.

    The BT 12 month rolling contract for free evening and weekend calls is not as good as you might think it is.Once you sign it you will always leave yourself wide open to cancellation fees if you wish to leave BT, or even downgrade your options.Unless of course you remember to cancel your contract before it rolls on.

    "You cannot downgrade during the minimum period or any subsequent renewable minimum period. If you cease service during the minimum period or any subsequent renewable period a termination charge will apply. This charge will be based on the outstanding period of your contract term."

    John Dough posted THIS on another forum. It appears to be the definitive version of what'll be happening on 1 April 2008.

    1.Another increase here:

    "rounding of non inclusive calls will also change from rounding to the next 0.5p to
    rounding to the next penny"

    2. Any idea of what the BT Line Rental Plan is ?

    "2.
    Available to eligible residential BT Together Option 1 (‘Unlimited Weekend Plan’ from 1st April) customers who make at least
    one chargeable call a month with BT. BT reserves the right to move customers from the BT Together Option 1 (‘Unlimited
    Weekend Plan’ from 1st April 2008) to the Line Rental Plan if they make less than one chargeable call a month."

    If you sign up to the rolling 12 month contract to get free evening calls too, you don't stay on Option 1, you change to the 'Evening & Weekend Calls Plan' (Option 2).

    It's a possible alternative to Primus Saver Option 2 but there are drawbacks:

    1. 12 month contract (obviously);
    2. No Penny Mobile 2 twenty minute calls/diverts to mobiles for a fixed 20p;
    3. Free calls limited to 60 minutes before re-dialling (the Primus limit is 90 minutes).

    OTOH, it'd be one less bill so, if that is important to you ......

    Thanks for the sensible reply Heinz. I do not wish to CPS to primus as I (or my OH) may forget to dial 18185 during the day and then get a bill from primus (I do not have or wish to have an Orchid). As well I think BT is cheaper for some 0845 calls, so it would be necessary to 1280 for them .
    Also life is too short to make 90 min phone calls, so that aspect does not bother me. Thanks once again.

    But even with the BT evening and weekend plan you'd have to pay for daytime calls, so I don't understand your comment about forgetting 18185 for daytime calls as the same would apply to the BT plan. Except with BT, daytime calls would then be 4p per minute + 6 connection charge if you forget to use 18185 instead of 3p per minute without connection charge with Primus.

    So if you CPS'd to Primus and forgot to use 18185 for daytime calls you'd still be better off than if you were with BT and forgot to use 18185.

    Somewhere I think you are getting confused as your post makes little sense.
    It's PAC not PAC Code, it's MAC not MAC Code, it's PIN not PIN Number, it's ATM not ATM Machine, it's LCD not LCD Display, it's DVD not DVD disc... It's no one not noone, It's a lot not alot, It's got not gotten... Panini is the plural of panino - there is no S!!

    I understand the free unlimited W/E calls are from the 1st Feb and last 1 hr? You can still make evening calls up to 1 hr for 4.5p and this will change in April and you will be charge 1.5 per min and 6p connection. Just to make sure as I will be using bt for w/e calls and 18185 for day calls. I do not use bt for my calls, in the past I had to make 6 calls to qualify for 1571, Heinz has confirmed there is no need for me to do that now. Thanks

    Frankly, I'm still sceptical on that - so I'm awaiting a reply by email as to whether, for those on BT Together Option 1 (Unlimited Weekend Plan), 2 (or 6) free weekend calls are adequate 'qualification' for free Caller Display and/or 1571. Won't know until next week.
    Time has moved on (much quicker than it used to - or so it seems at my age) and my previous advice on residential telephony has been or is now gradually being overtaken by changes in the retail market. Hence, I have now deleted links to my previous 'pearls of wisdom'. I sincerely hope they helped save some of you money.

    Heinz, will be interested to know what bt says. I got this from their website "
    Free UK Weekend calls

    Available to residential BT Together Option 1 ("Unlimited Weekend Plan" from 1 April 2008) customers making at least one chargeable call a month with BT. £10.50 a month with Direct Debit and paper-free billing. Terms and conditions apply.
    It does seems I will have to make at least one chargeable call to qualify if I am reading this properly. Thanks
  • I can't believe i'm typing this but after being messed around by a bunch of cowboys allegedly offering Broadband i'd ideally like to transfer my broadband to BT...As I have my phone/line rental with them do BT offer any complete phone/broadband package like CPW/Tiscali????

    I don't think they do - they're separate packages (although they appear on the same bill under the same account number).

    You should have more faith :D

    From the BT Price list:
    For Residential customers, BT Answer 1571 standard service is included for BT Together customers who make some chargeable or inclusive calls (excludes calls made with BT Broadband Talk) with BT. The following charging rules apply:
    • If you are billed monthly, at least two chargeable or inclusive calls must be made with BT within that month. Otherwise a charge of £1.00(Inc VAT) a month for the BT Answer 1571 standard service will be raised.
    • If you are billed every three months, at least six chargeable or inclusive calls must be made with BT within those three months. Otherwise a charge of £3.00(Inc VAT) every three months for the BT Answer 1571 standard service will be raised.
    Regards
