By my dodgy maths that is an increase of nearly 2100% in the cost of an hour long evening call!!:eek: How can they be allowed to get away with that?
I expect all the other companies to follow suit, for 'ease of comparison' purposes of course..........:rolleyes:

Can I ask a bit of a dumb question?
I'm currently in a 12 month contract with BT (new phone line) - can I change to a CPS company (e.g. Primus) without incurring cancellation charges from BT?
Cheers!
Make sure you keep BT line rental by signing up to Primus Saver Option 2.
Saver Option 2
How to get it to list through Uswitch:

So if you sign up for the Inclusive Calls Evening and Weekend Rolling Contract you only get one chance at the end of every year to cancel it free,otherwise you pay a cancellation fee.Also you have to pay a cancellation fee if you downgrade to the lower option.Doesnt sound very good imho.
Anybody got any idea what the cancellation fee is ?0 -

I don't intend to enter a new contract, but I would guess to exit it will be £70 Max.From 1st May 2007, for customers ending their service early, we replaced the existing charges with a policy that requires customers who have ordered a line on or after 1st May to pay the outstanding line rental for the 12-month minimum term of their contract, up to a maximum of £70 (incl. VAT). Customers moving home and transferring BT service to their new address will be subject to a new minimum term from the date of start of service at the new address.
When you cancel the contract you only pay the outstanding line rental for the 12-month minimum term of their contract, up to a maximum of £70 (incl. VAT). So if say 3 months were left you would only pay 3 x £10.50p= £34.50p.

Unless they change that too.0 -

Thanks for your advice but i was referring to the Inclusive Evening And Weekend Calls rolling contract.You have quoted the actual 12 month line rental fixed contract terms i guess a different matter.
I have now found this http://www.productsandservices.bt.com/consumerProducts/displayTopic.do?topicId=23734
Which states this about the call package
"If you cease service during the minimum period or any subsequent renewable period a termination charge will apply. This charge will be based on the outstanding period of your contract term."
I guess then it will be based on the normal cost of the package,£2.70p a month so the most the cancellation fee would be is about £33. Although this is not clear.
Plus of course their is nothing to stop you CPS your calls for a better deal to EG Primus and keeping the renewable BT Option until its time to cancel,thus avoiding the cancellation fee.:D If you did this you could even mix and match your calls eg cheaper ngn through BT, cheaper mobile through Primus Penny Mobile.0 -
Oh I see what you mean, sorry.
Wow it could be a huge exit contract cost, in fact knowing BT it will be.
My advice is still don't enter into the yearly contract, well not untill all conditions are fully known.0 -

In my defence I did say 'dodgy maths' and I was including the 6p set up fee which is not currently levied!;)
I don't know how they have the nerve to make such outrageous increases.0 -
Anyone asked BT yet?
My sneaking suspicion is that the Line Rental Plan is just the Line Rental and as such is pointless - the former BT Option 1, now called the Unlimited Weekend Plan is the same price and covers this - so in effect you're paying the same without the benefit of free weekend calls. My suspicion for its existence is that if you make no calls that count to BT (whether they have to be chargable or part of the plan is another debate that's yet to be settled) then the penalty is you lose free weekend calls of up to 60 minutes duration. They'd then (I assume) be charged in the same way non-inclusive calls on that plan are charged.0 -
I have to agree with that analysis.
In view of the apparently conflicting information about the number (and type) of calls which appear to have to be made to retain various benefits, I think the recommendation has to be to remain on 'the Unlimited Weekend Plan' (formerly BT Together Option 1) and to make at least 2 chargeable* calls per month to keep:
1. Free weekend UK 01/02/03 calls of up to 60 minutes each;
2. Free BT Privacy (Caller Display);
3. Free 1571 (for those yet to be convinced by me or friends and family to dump it).
* Calls which are shown on your BT bill as having to be paid for (i.e. assume that inclusive weekend calls now allowed under the Unlimited Weekend Plan do not count).Time has moved on (much quicker than it used to - or so it seems at my age) and my previous advice on residential telephony has been or is now gradually being overtaken by changes in the retail market. Hence, I have now deleted links to my previous 'pearls of wisdom'. I sincerely hope they helped save some of you money.0
