Well, since the whole of the BT price list is publically available on web and there is no such tariff is listed - I suspect its a mistake.. the tariffs are confusing enough for those of us who don't work for BT so..
If Drunkstar (or anyone else who works for BT) is around.. no doubt they can confirm one way or another..

Yes it is all on the web - that is the problem.
I had a look yesterday and after spending nearly half an hour trying to find some specific info amognst the 55 sections (let alone sub-sections), gave up.
Thank goodness for people like Heinz and others who can summarise the relevant bits for the rest of us!0 -

Free evening and weekend "normal" landline calls (up to 60 mins) if you sign up for a 12 month rolling line rental contract. Works out at £10.50 per month, inclusive of these calls and line rental, if you pay by DD (monthly or quarterly) and opt for their online paperfree billing service. If you want to pay by any other method it's an extra £1.50 per month and another 50p per month if you want your bill in the post. The only obvious catch, that I can see, is that you are unable to downgrade your package, or leave BT, for 12 months. At the end of 12 months you can downgrade, leave or commit for another 12 months on the same deal...................and so it goes on.
Can anyone see any other catches or issues? If this is what it initially seems, this looks like a pretty good deal to me at £10.50 a month and wee bit less hassle than the Primus deal. Go with 18185 for your longer daytime weekday landline calls, and mobiles, and that's about as cheap as it gets with the minimum of suppliers and hassle...........Unless someone can see what I am missing? No reliance should be placed on the above.0 -
No, allanmc, I think you've identified the issues.
The only thing I would say is that I can't see any reason you can't also have a CPS provider. You'd have to make one chargeable call via BT each month to avoid any possibility of extra charges but, as there's no cost involved in having BT's Unlimited Evening & Weekend Plan and there's no restriction on upgrading (to the Anytime Calling Plan) should the need arise, I can't see a drawback.Time has moved on (much quicker than it used to - or so it seems at my age) and my previous advice on residential telephony has been or is now gradually being overtaken by changes in the retail market. Hence, I have now deleted links to my previous 'pearls of wisdom'. I sincerely hope they helped save some of you money.0 -
This is quite confusing. Is it possible for me just to stick to paying 10.50 a month and make ALL my calls via 18866 and 18185?Save saynoto0870.com in your favorites, and stop giving companies more £££ dialling 0870 numbers when you can dial freephones or cheaper alternatives
call your credit card company, tell them that you want to leave, 99% of the time theyll lower your APR%
Remember when that Bank Manager or Salesperson smiles at you, all he sees is £ notes. Dont forget the motto, "the wider their grin, the more debt your in"0 -

Thanks Heinz. I've been doubting myself for a few days now as it all seems too good to be true. BT giving customers free evening and weekend calls!!!
I can't find anything about making a monthly chargeable call with this rolling contract deal. Is that condition maybe only applicable to their Free Weekends (Option 1) call package? I don't think they would allow a CPS as that is part of the 12 month commitment to BT. I am not aware of a CPS package that would be any cheaper than this BT offer anyway. The only benefit would be the lack of a 12 month tie in to their Option 2 package.
Hi Jinkssick.
By the look of this rolling contract offer you could, indeed, make all of your calls via 18866 and 18185. As I mentioned above, I can find no mention of making a monthly chargeable call to qualify for the free evening and weekend calls. Please feel free to correct me if I am mistaken. The only downide to your suggestion is that you would be paying the 18866 or 18185, 5p per call, set up fee on landline calls during the evenings and weekends when you could call for free via BT. The best thing to do for your weekday daytime landline calls would be to use the 18866 or 18185 for them and simply use BT for the evenings and weekends. Line rental with inclusive evening and weekend calls (up to 60 mins) works out at £10.50 per month if you pay by direct debit (monthly or quarterly) and use online paperfree billing. Consider this only if you are happy to commit to staying with BT for 12 months.
Can anyone find any mention of having to make a monthly chargeable call on the BT Free "Evenings & Weekends" (Option 2) offer? No reliance should be placed on the above.0 -
The Free Primus Saver 2 Evening and Weekend package is cheaper if you make longer calls because you get 90 minutes of calls as opposed to BT,s 60 minutes. Plus it enables you to make capped mobile calls of 20 minutes for just 20p.
Their is no reason why you cant CPS your calls whatever option you are on.0 -
With Primus the Free Evening and Weekend Calls are what they say FREE. Where as on BT,s offer they raise the proper charge then give you a credit. Does this mean that if you dont make some chargeable calls you dont get to use up the credit and it rolls on?
"Available to eligible residential customers agreeing to a 12 month renewable contract on BT Together Option 2 ('Unlimited Evening & Weekend Plan' from 1 April). Line rental costs apply. Discount is via bill credit. Exclusions and conditions apply."0 -
Good call (excuse the pun) about the longer call length and the capped mobile calls. If either of those things are important to you then you would have to include Primus as a possibility in your home phone solution equation.
Not so sure about the option to use CPS on this rolling contract. Here is the line from the T&Cs:
"You cannot downgrade during the minimum period or any subsequent renewable minimum period. If you cease service during the minimum period or any subsequent renewable period a termination charge will apply. This charge will be based on the outstanding period of your contract term."
With this "service", BT will provide you with inclusive evening and weekend landline calls if you make a 12 month commitment, every 12 months, to their Option 2 package. If you don't want to commit for 12 months it will be £2.70 per month, thank you very much, and you would be better off with Primus. There is no real need for CPS with this deal as long as you are aware of the 60min free call limit, and make astute weekday/mobile use of 18185 (or similar). Only you will know who you call and when you call them.
I think the way to look at it is that BT is providing your calls on this 12 month rolling contract. If you want to use a CPS provider, then, this free evenings & weekends (Option 2) package is NOT for you.
This seems a nice, easy and very competitve way to pay for your home phone. It is clearly not the ultimate MoneySavingExpert solution, but it will probably be the easiest for those that can't be bothered, or would save very little by choosing another option. Set it up for a year and forget it. They will "write to remind you when your contract is nearing the end of a renewable period". At that point, have another look and see if you can better it. If not, simply do nothing and go for another 12 months........No reliance should be placed on the above.0
