I think all BT line rental customers have been individually written too regarding the changes in line rental, the paper free billing option and other tariff changes...

No letter received here yet. I think the Option 1 (Unlimited Weekend Plan) evening call hike (96p for the first hour) is daylight (sorry - evening) robbery!
If you put your general location in your Profile, somebody here may be able to come and help you.

No - I suspect that it will be mainly as they don't want to waste IT resources on deciding who to move tariff, notifying them etc and then having to reserve the position if a customer then starts making chargeable calls..

Unless, of course, they find that quite a few people never make any calls on BT during the week and then make dozens on the weekend but even then I have my doubts that they will try very hard..

    Regards
    Sunil

I'd agree with that assessment. Plus, moving a subscriber would, I imagine, involve providing notice of the change. So giving time to rectify the situation if necessary.

Incidentally, the link I gave earlier was for the present Line Rental Plan. The April 1st one will presumably reflect the new pricing. My comparison wasn't a good one.

I have a 'unused' line here and plan to make 6 inclusive weekend calls (quarterly billing) before the bill is produced in a couple of weeks so will see if I am charged for 1571/Caller Display - I fully expect not to be.

For anyone interested - I received my bill and was not charged..

From what I can gather,if you`re on option 1 at the moment, then from 1st April BT are moving you onto "free weekend package".
Not a question of joining, they are putting you on it.

I think Option 1 customers are already getting free weekend calls, effective 2nd Feb ?
  • how in your opinion does each bt division prioritise 'bt' tasks ahead of other telco's tasks ?

Well, it's a fair question, and I don't know the answer. The BT engineer who told me it happens did not say how it's done.

As a wild guess, I would say that they prioritise BT customers' tasks by doing them first.

your bt engineer from up the pole receives on average about 4 tasks a day....they have no idea of the overall position of the faults reported or installation jobs outstanding.
the 4 tasks they have for that day have an appointment slot or a required by date/time.
so at best an individual who was looking to be sacked could juggle their tasks about so they went consistently to 'bt' ones first
    1. if they had 2 in the same appointment slot . ...providing of course they could tell which one was a 'bt' one .
    2. they really wanted to possibly screw the day up by going out of their way to do the work in an illogical order
    3. it's a distinct possibility that the service provider that the engineer is supposed to be biased against is the same one they use at home

the rules for contact between the different bt divisions are so strict that again anyone breaking the rules risks the sack

    it's nonsense

Presumable with the 1900% price increase for an evening call on option 1 you would have the right to cancel your contract with immediate effect, may be useful for people who are tied in to a high priced contract or have come to the end of the cheap discount period?!

    That is interesting.

I presume u r on BT option 1 weekend call plan?

Isn't there a requirement to make 1 'chargeable' call to qualify for free weekend calls under option 1 ? Were u charged for those weekend calls?

A senior BT call centre trainer advised me that ANY call routed via the BT network is counted as a qualifying call. This includes your inclusive "FREE" weekend, or evening, landline calls.

They could be wrong but I doubt it. Sunhil's test seems to confirm that this is indeed the case. As long as you are seen to be using their system they seem to be happy, even though they are making no extra money.
No reliance should be placed on the above.

Does that include Freephone 0500/0800/0808 calls , or must it be a inclusive,or chargeable call.I ask because they use to include Freephone Calls in the qualifying calls to get BT Privacy CLI ,but then they changed it to chargeable calls.
