Lillibet - I hope you had your knitted blanket for your afternoon nap and those biscuits sound gorgeous - can't fit anything else in the oven though now - ah well, next time. :T
Jo: well, did you stand your ground with the lecturer? let us know.
Apprentice Tycoon: sorry but I'll be pinching that recipe as well...... Ta!!! :A
Somerset Princess: bite the bullet? like we're all some kind of wild west side show???? I'm sorry but I simply don't do spangles (not with a J-Lo bottom)......
right i'm off to surf :beer:But I'm going to say this once, and once only, Gene. Stay out of Camberwick Green0 -
Dorry: oh the cranks cookbook is one i lavished all of 49p on in oxfam. it's from the healthfood/wholefood restaurant which was all the rage in the late 1980s when eveyone was being trendy and before Mr Latte came to town. I think there was one in Covent Garden. It's all veggie as well. Some of the stuff is really nice but also some of it is a bit tooooo poncy "take the juice of one sun-ripened organic greek lime and fold into half a tub of hand-strained tibetan yak ricotta"..... - that sort of thing.
Squeaky: you can't have both - the custard will make the ice cream melt - really, some people........But I'm going to say this once, and once only, Gene. Stay out of Camberwick Green0 -

I remember seeing an advert for tinned custard and they served it up hot on something and up to that point I realised that I had never had it hot! Ever. Just used to eat it cold straight from the tinHi, I'm a Board Guide on the Old Style and the Consumer Rights boards which means I'm a volunteer to help the boards run smoothly and can move and merge posts there. afternoon all
Custard... always the custard... unless it's boiling in which case icecream
been working like a mad thing recently, and far too stressed to be much good the rest of the time.. bah. Anyway, hopefully things will be sorted out soon.
Thanks to Squeaky ( :P ) I made a (be-ro) banana loaf at the weekend which was yummee and disappeared more or less before it was even off the cooling rack- baking's such a lovely O/S thing to do and I find it very gratifying and de-stressing too.... more banana loaf tonight and some brack tomorrow I think...
Luckily I've a freezer full of nice O/S meals I made and froze before my life decided to turn itself on itys head and they should last until things are back to normal enough for me to make "real" food too! Mexican beef and baked potato tonight sounds good...
I wonder if I'm the only Oldstyler whose sanity actually INCREASES on coming herePre O/S: what's a vitamin? Does it begin with the letter e?Now: I'm not eating any of that pre-made rubbish...0 -
Sanity? what's sanity? I thought we were all batty on here, discussing the merits of vinegar, slow cookers, bread makers and how to get your chickens to lay oven ready organically farmed 100% prime meat banana loaves, or summat like that0

sounds entirely right to me :rotfl:Pre O/S: what's a vitamin? Does it begin with the letter e?Now: I'm not eating any of that pre-made rubbish...0

Squeaky, thanks for the link. I'll definately be making those biscuits in, oh say, 5 minutes?? They sound too good to miss out on...
Butterfly Girl, yes, sorry. My next day off is in August so I won't be expecting any rain til then. (Whether or not the weather chooses to take notice, though, is another mater entirely.)
Was thinking about it, and its funny really. Everyone else from my work, men included, spends time off laying in bed till midday, eating ready meals and watching big brother or some such. (rather than baking, washing, and generally DOING stuff for myself.)Not heavily in debt, but still trying to sort things out.

oh good grief...... when i was a child i would have people who bought tinned custard pointed out to me in the co-op in a "poor love" sort of way. I first saw it being consumed c. 10 years ago - from the tin - by OH at his Mother's. Oh dear, I thought, we'll soon put a stop to that.......
Gooseberry crumble was a great success (vanilla ice cream in case you wondered) which i was rather suprised at as OH always said he didn't like gooseberries - perhaps they had to be put on two days before like MIL's veg...... Carrot cake also good apart from i made some lemon icing for the top - just cant get icing right. far too runny but went down the sides for a "rustic" look and underneath - so that was nice and gooey. will let you know about the cranberry and orange tomorrow - cherry cake from the be-ro bible so i don't think i need to comment on that (in fact cranberry cake the marmalde one with some dried cranberries thrown in so that should be okay as well). "God bless be-ro and all who bake with her. I hereby name this fruit cake "Sanity"".............. oh i think i need a lie down.........But I'm going to say this once, and once only, Gene.
