    Hello All

Hope you don't mind me joining in. Thursday is like a Friday to me as it's my last day at work so am looking forward to a nice day with the children tomorrow (hope the rain stops though),

Did do some OS stuff tonight though and made some home made orange jelly and OH got some yogurt on the go. Nappies are all washed and drying and I even managed a second load as well!

    Regards
    Adrienne

Today I received a postcard from a friend...she was in Egypt, and it started with "today I was woken up by the sound of a bomb three hotels away from where I am...". Gosh...I actually thought she'd already departed Egypt when those terrible things happened and so wasn't concerned for her safety, so this was a bit of a jolt. As it happens we have a mutual friend who lives in Russell Square... she too is fine and was well away from the bomb...but still, it's all too close for comfort.

Oh yes, today was payday. For the first time in I don't know how long....a very long time...my bank account was still in the black after last month's payday. I had nearly four months of unemployment starting in November, so finally I have cleared that overdraft. In previous jobs I always seemed to be in the red to the tune of around £500 every single month...even though I was earning heaps more than I do now. This month I even bought new shoes (3 pairs, went a bit mad...), paid for an airfare for use in august, bought some gifts for a friend's baby, and paid a leccy bill. These types of things would in the past always have pushed me over my usual £500 overdraft. Things aren't perfect in the Bank of Snowy Owl, but I think that the MSE magic is working on me...:j

Good night everyone, sleep well...and JW1096 best of luck with your interview tomorrow.

    Night all.
    xx

Hello again, not sure if anyones interested but im going to tell you anyway. Before i start to learn how to cook and get out of the lazy conveniense foods routine i went shopping for a few things i think i will need,i baught a set of different sized bowls, couple of jugs, whisk, veg peeler, sharp knife large and small as ive always just cut my sandwiches with scissors lol, yorkshire pudding tin and a spud masher.Oh and i couldnt resist this metal thing that you put on apples etc and it makes them into wedges.

i also went to the library for a couple of cook books and picked up a feng shu book while i was there.Had a quick flick through the book and it said any chipped crockery should be thrown away immedietly, arggggghhhhhh many of my bowls are chipped so it looks like they are next on my shopping list.

    Hi Squiggles

Sounds like you had fun today...you sound so keen, you'll soon get into the swing of it, especially now that you've got the gear.

Regards the chipped crockery, I had heard similar advice but it only applied to cups, mugs and glasses, ie crockery which comes in contact with the mouth. If a chipped cup or whatever touches your lips it is symbolic of your words being cut and destroyed (or something like that!). Unless you really want new bowls I wouldn't have thought it necessary to update them because of this bit of feng shui advice. To my mind it makes sense that it would only apply to cups etc. Even if you don't believe in feng shui it still makes sense if only because chucking those damaged cups/mugs away will avoid you cutting yourself!

Let us know how you get on with your cooking...remember practice makes perfect. I am fairly experienced at baking but still occasionally produce inedible bricks rather than cakes - so I just make something else instead..!

    :hello: Morning folks :hello:

    :j :j :j :j :j :j Only 3 months until the OS meet! :j :j :j :j :j :j

Up early again (why, oh why?) but I've got a few things to do to sort us out in time for going on holiday tomorrow. OH thinks that we can fit the clothes for our holiday in my one big bag - er, it's MY bag and MY clothes go in there! I mean, we're going for two weeks....................... :D The first week we're spending in a cottage and the second we're camping in a erm, tent - got to book the campsite today. Fingers crossed they've got space for the middle of August!

Still haven't found what to give my mum for her birthday. I'm thinking about flowers from my normal little place on the Scillies. Which reminds me, I'll have to post it on the 5 star service board.

Lunch will be free, as I'm meeting up with an old work colleague who gets our lunch paid on expenses! Hurrah. I do feel slightly guilty, but hey. ;)

Anyway, I need a :coffee: so I'll see you folks later!

    Have a good day

  • Morning everyone! I hate these early mornings too - got to drive up to Southport this morning (from Birmingham) - the M6 on a Friday is NOT my favourite thing to do. But never mind, it's nearly the weekend!

My mother has invited herself up for the entire weekend so it's mad-running-round-the-house tonight when I get home to clean and tidy. Am planning a lovely OS money saving weekend with free visits to a museum and cooking at home.

Had about a hundred phone calls last night from friends and family wanting to know if my roof was still on after the tornado in Birmingham. Am pleased to say everything still intact - but quite a near miss as I live just about a mile away from where it happened. I hope all my favourite charity shops are OK!

    Morning all...

A couple of hours work this morning before attempting the M4 - got 3 loads of washing done and folded ready to hang out this morning but its so grey I wish I hadn't bothered......

I've got into a great routine now of most of this OS stuff - the recycling's been the lastest thing and it's now working like a dream - sectioned off a section of the garden where we can put all our composty items - just a case of chuck it in the pile with the grass clippings and such at the moment but instead of the 4 bags of rubbish each week, we're down to one!

The next thing on our list to do is sort out an organic meat supplier - we're surrounded by farmland so there's got to be someone good - DH is on holiday for 2 weeks in August and is going farm shopping with DD's to get a good idea of who, what, where, when. We don't eat a lot of meat but it's something that's been playing on my mind for a while now so bring it to the top of the list and lets get it ticked off.....does anyone else have these mental OS lists of things they want to achieve??? I think that's the beauty of OS - you tailor it to fit your needs (without the aid of a sewing machine).

Right time to go air the beds and finish packing for our weekend.......tooodle pips all xxx
