Any OS tips you can provide those of us about to head off?????
PS nice to have you back
Thank you r.mac! It is nice to be back (well it is now the ironings done!) The holiday was great once we got there but we were held up at the airport for 17 hours! so have to make a claim now from the insurance. The villa we hired though was lovely with its own pool and worked out a lot cheaper booking it all ourselves instead of the usual package deal!
As for OS tips for the hols only if you are going now make the most of the sales if you have to buy any holiday clothes, and remember that if you are going to sunny climes you don't need take very much as it won't take long to wash and dry clothes for a second wearing and shampoo or shower gel can double up as a temporary clothes washing liquid.
Oh and natural yogurt works well for sunburn. Our days are happier when we give people a bit of our heart rather than a piece of our mind.

(((hugs))) Anacasta, make sure you don't try and do too much today and get well soon!
rnshon, terribly uncivilised to do ironing before work you know- isn't it great though when you know a lazy dinner won't cost you the earth and will still taste nummy?
johanne, DVD tarting sounds like much more fun than card tarting- we're trying that here too, each of my friends is taking a turn!
ooh, corned beef hash! my Mum used to make that when I was wee Jamiedodger, I must ask her what she did this weekend!
fairylights - where do you get your gold dust from? I've seen it used and I thought it could make a cake look really special..
soba, I'm sure your DS loves "helping" you bakeI know I did and it gives you such confidence to do it when you grow up yourself
r.mac, I can only tidy in the same room as the telly... luckily I've a wee portable if needs be
moggins, I think it may be a little late to kick you nowmight you be able to find a recipie for muffins by volume? if you've still got a jug, that is..
chickadee - enjoy all your precious me time!
pssst.... catnzine..... it's my ironing you're doing :P
Ziziggi - lucky on the ironing (I'd have loads if I hadn't shipped it all to catzine)
vickya - fingers crossed that your job hunting goes well. I'm sure I read somewhere that you can use plain yoghurt instead of buttermilk - not sure where though... maybe another O/Sr knows if I'm going mad?
TM - does the outlet store have the "going/gone" stuff there then? or how does it work?
se999 - hopefully you're still all un-broken now? the mugs will come in dead handy for your DS - student accom. never provides nearly enough (apparently you don't give your friends a cuppa?!)
Aril - I hope you enjoyed the clown this pm - how lovely that it's free!
Somersetprincess - I got a set of little wooden drawers from Ikea for about £8 for filing. I use them in conjunction with paper wallet things (for the stuff that I need to keep, not use if you see what I mean) much cheaper than proper filing and works for me
I'm not terribly O/S yet today (work, bah...) but I discovered my yearly bonus is being bought off (which would normally be bad, but as I'm leaving I'd miss out anyway) so I'm getting a once off payment this month and a (very tiny) pay rise to compensate. It's worked out great for me.
I bought a lovely big plate in Ikea this lunchtime for putting cakes on. Not terribly MSE or OS, but I've been thinking about it for about 4 months so I feel it's a well considered purchase! while we were there we "ate out" - a nice hotdog, chips and juice for £1.50 so quite an O/S lunch out all things considered!Pre O/S: what's a vitamin? Does it begin with the letter e?Now: I'm not eating any of that pre-made rubbish...0 -
Hello again
Well, waved DS1 and Mr TM off at Liverpool airport - well, dropped them off and watched them wander insideDS1 wanted to get there early so he could watch the planes, but he looked a little sad wandering after daddy, having been made to wear his coat and baseball hat (easier than packing them) but he'd just woken up from the car journey and you parents know that sad little 'lost in space' look sleepy kids have. i shall miss him
Anyway, doddled off to the QVC outlet shop. Now, I was expecting a full on, large unit in one of these new business/retail parks, doing just about the whole range of what they sell. Pah - what a waste of time!! Smallish unit in a shopping mall (and not a very salubrious one at that) Looked like a cross between what I'd imagine an Argos store would look like if closing down and those cheapy stores that sell a few bits and bobs in the way of pans and ornaments! I went complete with CC's., cheque book and even cash. Came back with it too - although did pop into the Asda and bought some kids t-shirts for our hols and some yellow stickered salad items.
OK, off to surf for a mo then put DS2 to bed.
Have a good evening all0 -
Evening all.
Have sat on my lazy bottom today and done nothing, am in a bit of pain today (actually, a lot of pain, I want to cry) as have damaged myself and cant really walk without difficulty (its very hard to stand up and sit down without help), so im lazing and quilting.
Interview went well yesterday, im sure ill hear soon, but today had a phone call from another bank who ive been applying to for a few weeks (long application process!) and now am at final interview stage - which is this Friday!! YEY!! Im pleased, because I want to do that particular job over the others ive been applying for, and the guy I spoke to today who my interview is with sounds really nice, am looking forward to that. I hope ill be able to walk by then! If I stay quite still until then, I should be ok though.
Im sending boyf out to get dinner tonight, I dont fancy cooking tonight - Fish and Chips (yum) is the way forward, and lovely boyf said, shall I get a movie too?? Damn right you will I said! I intend to make the most of this week, and let him run around after me for a change!
Anyway, aside from that, not much else to report, so I think ill do a little more browsing and then watch TV, 'you are what you eat' and 'how clean is your house' are on tonight, bliss!

Good news :j
DS1 has been offered some beer & winemaking bits via Freecycle. :j He thinks it's a really good idea especially after seeing things people want i.e. some people want jam jars for jam and pickle making, which even 'broke' students can do, it just takes a bit of time to collect them and it's more environmentally friendly than normal recycling. Someone else wanted 'any musical instrument' as they wanted to learn to play something, which just made us go AAAHHH.
DS2's been contacted about some potential IT work, which if it happens will be brilliant for cashflow for starting Uni (hopefully in Sept). :j
Greenlogo - Nothings broken today YET!! There is still time though!!!
JW1096 - Good luck with the final interview on Friday.
Had a really good day today, and had a super comment from someone about a post I made in Old Style, which has a relative newbie is so nice.
Temperatures went up to 34 today, so it's nice to relax now it's cooling down.
Think we're getting used to the heat. The one good thing about temperatures like this is it's too hot to do the ironing :j0 -
Greenlogo - the gold dust comes from Jane Asher's website under edibles, colours ... I picked Royal Gold, and it looks fab (although a bit tiny) It was £2.50 for a tube inc first class post, and I have to say once this dark chocolate mousse cake is out of the oven it should look fab. DH will be 29 tomorrow and I have a great day planned - bucks fizz and eggs benedict for breakfast, family trip to the cinema (pre-midday cheap showing!) and a lazy afternoon. I've even scheduled the normal morning trip to the market and we're going to leave him on his own to laze in the bath - hope he remembers this in three weeks when it's my birthday!!!Official DFW Nerd Club - Member no. 002 :rotfl:0

Evening all,
Was meant to be on holiday today but we are off tomorrow! Had a good day today - went to Natural History museum at Tring, Herts. free to get in and First Born made a mask. Brill day out - loads and loads of stuffed animals all collected in the Victorian days. Further proof (if any was needed) that cats are more intelligent than dogs - loads of stuffed domestic dogs, (OH got quite misty eyed looking at a greyhound he used to bet on!) but no stuffed domestic cats!
Hope all the sickies are feeling better.

Just got from the 'rents house and feeling full to burst with nice home cooking, was nice to make a food parcel up for my mam for a change, well it had potato salad, camembert, crudite, cookies, white godiva chocolates and some little LUSH samples i collected.
She was pleased.
Dont think ill be in work tomorrow as im still feeling very rough but alot better for getting out of the house, but even then i just vegged on mams sofa. Hopefully i will be well enough to tidy round the house tomorro for OH coming back on friday0
