Hey all! Blimey I leave it 2 days and there are pages and pages to catch up on!
Well I started this week in the normal way of counting calories etc, but by Wednesday I'd given up and decided to have a week off. I have eaten anything I've wanted this week and not stressed about it at all. If there is a 2-3lb gain I really don't mind because it will have been worth it!
It will be back to the normal routine for me on Monday, I may be enjoying myself but I'm not going to let it become a "slippery slope"!
Speaking of slippery slopes, now it's time to share my good news... I've won a ski-ing holiday for 4!Woop, lucky me! It needs to be taken soon, so I will be leaving you all in peace for a bit when I go!
Swoosh, swoosh...
Jillie1974 - trackie bottoms and a t-shirt sound fine for the gym! I didn't invest in anything new straight away when I started. Once you've been a few times you'll probably get a better idea of what kit would be best for you. I like the longer gym bottoms that come down over the knee rather than shorts, and a performance t-shirt, then they double up as cycling gear for me. Some bras can double as gym crop tops too. As long as you have something that looks vaguely sporty and allows you to move freely, I'm sure you will be fine!
Bails, well done on taking time to think it through about the gym! Let us know how you get on with the open weekend and what your final decision is! Ajax, I wish I had your negotiating skills! I am picking up tips from your posts though!
Suggs, good to see you posting again and well done on the 2lb loss! I have a feeling your loss will be my gain this week, haha!
BIG couple of days of winter sporting action this weekend on the box so that's me sortedWhat's everyone else up to?

I make that £60 a month you're paying for 12 months, and I'm sure you can get that down to the short side of £55. Tell them all the things they quote are great, but you have a budget. You promised yourself you wouldn't pay more than £50 a month and you won't. Ask them what they can knock out to bring the price down to £50. 10% off beauty treatments really means 90% of their extortionate price for beauty treatments which you'd find for half the price somewhere else. If you don't want it (driving range?!?!?!) then let them knock it out (I'd be surprised if they did really knock it out) so that you can save a quid or two per month
Thanks Ajax. It works out as £52.29 with the two extra months. The beauty treatments are actually the same price as I'm already paying  but I'm going to try and find somewhere cheaper if at all possible. Good idea about the things I won't use, not sure if they'll go for it but will definitely ask. Or try to get more passes for OH instead. Suggs, lol, the personal trainer was very nice - OH said 'I hope you're not going to run off with him' ! - but I have no need to when OH is so lovely.BB can vouch for me... KPC, still trying to work that out, will let you know!
Oh Missy, I'm so jealous! OH and I said today that if I'm well enough we'll go skiing next yearHow soon you off?
OH is away this weekend so I'm getting some very early nights, yae, watching the rugby and batch baking (bread pudding in the oven now). I'm off to a class at the gym tomorrow and then when OH gets back on Sunday, we're going to spend the afternoon there to really check it out
Sorry you have to work Ajax; good luck with the rugby Suggs; enjoy the [strike]lycra-clad thighs[/strike] sporting action Missy

Noooo, take me with you, I can fit in my old ski suit now - okay, so it is pale lilac - probably not in vogue these days :rotfl:
Seriously though, congratulations, and have a lovely lovely time. :T

The appointment was at 14'20, got seen at 16'00, consultant felt the lump, then you go downstairs and get a mammogram, back again on Monday for a scan and a consultant to look again, so thought I was going to know today, sweaty palms, heart I could hear but no, Monday is the next round of tests;)0 -
stage one though victory - well done for getting through it.
I like cooking gadgets too, but I'm too tight to buy them - I keep inheriting stuff from my mum and grandma's cupboard. My slowcooker came from there, as did my 40 year old handblender and my 30 year old food processor. I'm using the food processor quite a bit at the moment - it's really easy to dismantle and clean and I'm finding I can make much better pastry in it. It came in handy for my lamb tartare too ( look away ajax) - it would not have been fun trying to chop that meat and cornichons so fine by hand! I've left my slowcooker on for up to 16 hours before and never really had a problem - it does catch a bit on the bottom certainly but not enough to worry about.
oooooh, lakeland, i'll have to go for a lie down. all that shiny kitchenware and handy gadgets. . . I like their catalogue even better than Hotel Chocolat's.
Those are some nasty hours ajax - are you hourly paid or one of these salaried managers who's working an extra 40 days a year unpaid? Alas I can't join you as am being an unpaid slave for OH or as he likes to put it 'it's good to have you on the door because lots of roleplayers aren't used to having normal pretty girls smile at them.' I think it's a compliment!
Just finished my minimuffins and the silicon moulds are pure genius. Worth every penny. made chocolate vanilla oat muffins and apple custard muffins at 6 and 5 syns respectively. And I only had one of each! go me!
congrats missyg! how exciting!! can you add the cost of the holiday to the amount you've saved over the year - if that makes any sense at all.0 -
Victory, I had to have a scan in similar circumstances, after a mammogram. If the news is good they can tell from the scan straight away, so although it must be awful to have to wait for two more days you will at least have an answer on Monday. And it's much much more likely to be a negative .... you know the statistics, almost always it's a false alarm. More love on its way to you from Granny.0

Victory, your post made me shed a tear of happiness - I am so over the moon that you feel able to enjoy food knowing that you are the one in control!:T I'm happy that I may have helped a little but it is YOU that has made this shift possible so a massive well done to you for taking what is a very difficult step - trusting in yourself. You have made my month!! :j
You see ultimately I have to take care of myself, for my sake, the kids, I know that eating loads, binging, eating for England due to resentment of the stick thin insects I live with eating me out of house and home is not the answer, my scraps of paper, analytical mind has told me I need a solution to the problem rather than myself adding to it by behaving like a rebellious silly child that can't control herself and eats to 'be in with the others'.
So I know for the diabetes I should eat healthly, for the tablets I should not drink, for my numbers I should keep consistency rather than binge marathons.... the solution I have come up with is to alter the line of thinking, to not resent but enjoy, to not go mad but enjoy, I was and am my own worst enemy by being so strict, seeing things the wrong way around, I make it difficult for myself but not anymore, I know when to stop, how to stop, why I should stop, I know I can eat it if I want to but can stop it also if I want to,to not fear , one thing I am no longer agreeing to is to go hungry, even it means a slight gain or another apple, hunger makes me veer off to the bad choices, I can't keep doing that, it takes the focus off the real world, wandering around, clock watching, wishing for food, I will continue to surround myself with all the good stuff at all times, my cupboards are not going back to their old ways, will prob have some of the bad stuff here and there but I know the next day I can go back to it, I have the skills for life now, it is up to me to use them to the best I know rather than trying to bring myself down.
I am pretty hopeful now I will not be as over weight as I was if I keep practising these new 'house rules':D
The guilt gets banished that way when the control is back in my hands:D0 -

Much love coming your way from me too, I hope you can let life distract you as much as possible til Monday and take some comfort from Granny's wise words xxxThe 1,000 Day Challenge:Feb 16, 2016500/30,000

.........that would be an excellent angle and a likely winner as it won't actually cost them any money. All they want is money, and handing out a few extra vouchers won't cost them a cent in hard cash. I'd still be looking to reduce your costs though, you want to spend as little as you can, not pay for inclusive extras you'll never use.katiepoppycat wrote: »Those are some nasty hours ajax - are you hourly paid or one of these salaried managers who's working an extra 40 days a year unpaid? ....... sounds like it to me mateI work a 12 hour shift, four days on/4 days off. This time it's work Thu-Sun, then Mon-Thu off then worn Fri-Mon and have Tue-Fri off etc. I like the hours really.
OK then victory, we'll anticipate the good news on Monday. We're still crossing everything for you, no matter what day it's on.
Nice win in the comp missy, sounds great.0 -
