How about you go down to the library (or internet search if you don't have a lib card!), look for some info on Origami. Buy some paper (well under a fiver) and make origami roses! There's alot of thought in there, and it will show you have taken time, and made the extra effort to do something a little different.

(My first post! I hope it helps someone!)

Also, if you already have your pressie sorted, and you're happy to spend a couple of quid on a really special card, www.moonpig.com is the place! Not only can you personalise them, but can also add your own photos to a lot of the cards (eg, a raunchy one for a mock "playboy cover", or a Me to You tatty teddy holding a photo of you and your love bird in a sweet embrace!!) They have ones with sweet poems which you can edit to make more personal. Over all, I was throughly happy to spend £3 on the card and 40p postage, as I think it's really special and different. Also, you can edit the size of the card, so if you want to splurge a little, you can always get a big one!
And just so you know, mine arrived within a day, and the quality was fantastic. Absolutly no complaints. In fact, i've just put an order in for my footy mad nephews birthday card, which is him in his kit on the front of a "football magazine"!

This might just be time for someone!

This is what I have done for my h2b:
He calls me his penguin cos they mate for life (Bless) so I have found a cartoon picture of two penguins, looking at each other and one with arms outstretched.

I put this picture into a word document, then used the text wraparound tool to create a heart shape around it.

Then I wrote personal stuff about how much I love him around the picture - the heart shape shows as the text wraps around it.

I saved it as a Jpeg, then printed it (this makes it darker and more professional-looking)

I am going to make a black frame to go round it from card, and give it to him.

    Cost: pennies for paper
Time: took me over an hour to get it all right

It's very personal, and you could size it to fit a proper frame if you think of that before you start! (I didn't) or you could use it as your V-day card as it looks quite a bit like those posh ones you can get. Just choose a picture that fits your relationship - you could just do it with a heart if you don;t have a cutesy thing.

I love the shrinkie idea - where do I get some?

I wrote him a poem for our wedding day and would love to put this on a shrinkie.

If you put a hole in the corner it can go on a keyring too.

  • I've just spent AGES looking on lots of websites for ideas for creative things for my fiance and I knew I should have just looked on here in the first place! :)

Thank you to everyone because it didn't take that long and I've got some great ideas...

I work a lot of weekends at the moment and I'm not working 14th February so my lovely fiance has said he'll take me out for dinner at the hotel that we're having our wedding reception at. I've told him not to worry about a card because it's not our first together engaged so it's a bit of a waste of money (he either gets a jokey one which I'm not keen on or a cutesy one and I know how much the dinnr will cost so seems a bit pointless). We've also gone for the 'basic' meal because I pointed out that £20 for a rose and glass of champagne each was ridiculous. We don't even particularly like champagne! Anyway, so as he pointed out that will cost him around £100 so I don't want him to spend extra...

So what do I get him? Well I've decided I'll try to do a breakfast in bed. Only trouble is I'm not great at getting up 'early' so I want to think of things that can be done quickly and easily. It's something we always used to do before I got my job working weekends so I think it'll be nice. He also likes wine so I'm thinking maybe a message on a bottle of wine... I like the collage idea and I got lots of cheap frames (Clintons was doing BOGOF on 5 frames for £10 so I bought a couple of boxes at Christmas) and we also have a digital frame (fiance doesn't like lots of frames dotted around) but I need to think of a way to do it so he can see it but printed inexpensively. And then lastly, I liked the idea of the jigsaw puzzle and the vase with things in it. So I may try to somehow combine the lot. I thought I may do the jigsaw puzzle or turn the collage into a jigsaw puzzle to keep it going a bit longer and the vase maybe I could do something to do with the breakfast for him?

My biggest issue is that I want to do something he'll appreciate but isn't expensive. He prefers to just spend money on something and says he has no imagination, whereas I like to be imaginative. So I'm hoping he'll appreciate the above ideas. I did a 'cinema' pack for him, for Christmas which he seemed to like and appreciate that I'd actually thought about it for him so I'm hoping to do the same for V Day. I did think of doing a 'jar' present but can't think of anything suitable. Maybe I'll do the jigsaw in a jar?

Anyway, enough ramblings, thanks ppl! :)
  • I've got my other half a novelty kids lunch box from pound land and put a sign over the picture saying The Little Box of Sex and inside it put heart shaped short bread cookies, whipped cream, chocolate spread, furry handcuffs a novelty silver thong (99p primark lol!), some novelty sashees of lubricants and condoms (30p each in Afflecks palace!) and a book of vouchers!

    All cost £5.40

    Enjoy :-) x
  • I've been looking for a while for some good deals for Valentine's day, came across a great website, www.voucherseeker.co.uk they have a dedicated page for Valentine's gifts www.valentines-at-voucherseeker.co.uk

I think the website is fairly new, but it's got loads of big names on there, like Agent Provocateur, Interflora and Thorntons. I got 10% off a really nice lipstick from Avon and will be wearing it on my date on the 14th!
  • A great thread!

I am going to using a lot of the crafty ideas! It is all up to you what you spend your money on but I'm steering clear of tacky things that are krap and are mass produced - just because I'm doing it on the cheap doesn't mean it has to be pants. I'd rather invest a couple of hours and show that I care - surely we all have 2 hours to spare in the next 10 days?
I miss using my infinite coupons at Tesco!
2010 was the worst year ever :(
But 2011 so far has been a lot of fun! :j
