I always pick up pennies if I see them just because I'm hugely superstitious:rolleyes: but otherwise I wouldn't normally bother for less than 50p - doesn't that make me sound posh - "No darling, I won't consider bending down for less than 50p!"
That has made me laff so much !! :rotfl::beer:0 -
Here's a trick for you. Every time I go into a shop with my grandson he crawls around under the stands and always finds coins that have rolled under. It stops him getting bored while waiting.0

I have found £7.53p to date!
DD is horrified and pretends she is not with me if I spot something.
I can cook and sew, make flowers grow.0 -
LMAO I'm glad I'm not the only one that picks up money!
It absolutely drives me mad at work when people throw money on the floor or in the bins
I'll explain............I work in a vocational FE college and the students are unbelievably flippant with their money! Always saying they can't be bothered with change (where on earth do they get this idea from??) or it's only 10p, and I'm always saying 'it all adds up'! Anyway, it bugs me even more when they throw it around the sports hall as it becomes a major danger when our students slip on it whilst playing sport
So I go round picking it up (although stop at rifling through the bins when they throw it in there!) and save it in an emergency fund in my desk draw for when I forget to take any money in and don't have lunch:D

I would hand in to the police anything over £5 I think. The probability of someone claiming a small amount is low so you'll probably get it anyway, and you've done the 'right thing' in letting the starving little match girl get her next meal after she lost her last £5 in the world on the way to the shop. The loser may be a rich man who doesn't care if he's lost £5, or it could belong to someone to whom £5 makes the difference between their next meal or not.
Some years ago I worked for the treasury where we issued new notes and coins to the banks. As you probably know old tatty notes get returned to be shredded, but coins NEVER come back, although new ones continue to be minted and issued. Where do all these coins go? There must be millions of pounds worth of coins lying in land-fill or on the streets or somewhere. By the amount of coins being issued the country should be knee deep in them, but its not! One of life's mysteries....0 -
My husband gets really annoyed as I pick up coins I see but why not if people are happy to throw money away I'm not to proud to benefit from it.0

You're not going to believe this, but on the very morning I read this thread (first time ever) I read a post about glueing coins to the pavement, and lo and behold I find a 10p and 1p coin stuck outside Regency Court here in Guernsey! What's the chances!?!!0

When our kids were small my son found 2 £20 notes outside Harrrods. We thought hard about handing the cash into a police station as we wanted to be responsible and moral parents - so ended up giving the money to a charity of his choice(WWF).
Since then we have always picked money up and keep it in a jar - then give it to charity - those envelopes that need filling or something like Children in Need.
Some years we counted up how much we collected in a year and it seems to average out at about 4 pence a day - that is unless you get lucky and pick up a note or two. The really uncommon coins to find are 50p and £2 - suppose they are big/heavy and people notice when they drop.
There are definalely hotspots for money - outside pubs and fast food outlets - especially after rain, but also look at road junctions.
Happy hunting - but consider giving it to charity - it isn't yours after all.0
