Sparklewing you arent at all sad you are just excited about a new challenge and justifiably so IMO.Whenever I buy new things I get excited in anticipation of what I am going to do with them so it never wears off.As for stewing pears it depends on the variety I have found that Conference Pears tend to remain quite solid despite quite a long cooking time. But Bartlett and Comice pears stew beautifully

Sounds great fun... but why so sad?Ever wonder about those people who spend £2 apiece on those little bottles of Evian water? Try spelling Evian backward.0

LOL - I know what you mean. I ordered a slow cooker from Amazon last week, and can't wait for it to arrive so I can play with it! My OH thinks I am really sad - but I know you guys know better!
If they think Aberdeen is outlying, I hate to think what they think of where I live... (just keep going north for a bit....)0 -
I think it's brilliant that you can derive pleasure from something that others might not appreciate and totally take for granted [and you will find it's a very common syndrome on this board- being pleased about everyday pleasures not greedy that is] I still am totally overexcited about my huge mixing bowl and steamer pan I got from the local charity shop for £7.50 about 3 months ago! We have so much in this country and many of us [myself included sometimes] lose sight of that all too often when others elsewhere in the world have nothing.

I'm really considering a slow cooker and a breadmaker, but we only use 2 loaves of bread a week as it is so not sure if we really need it, plus I can only eat burgen soya and linseed bread as other breads set off my ibs so it might just end up gathering dust. And with the slow cooker Mr sparkle isn't a fan of anything in a sauce such as stew so again not sure if it would be worth it.0

I felt a bit bad as I spent £60 on new kitchen bits(also got a rack thing for all my veg) which seemed wrong since I am supposed to be embarking on a moneysaving life, however I suppose in the long run if it means I can do more cooking from scratch and we order less takeaways then it will pay for itself.
Having a nightmare finding tupperware online though so I suspect I may actually have to venture into town to the pound shop for that.:rolleyes:0 -

If it makes you feel any better Sparklewing I too bought a new BM yesterday as mine had died [tried freecycle but to no avail]. The material girl is out of her box, cartwheeling around the room and screeching "Result!!] as I type this!!!
