Morning all
Hi, this is the Daily Thread for 13th Jan '08. This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything OS and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an OS natter. The more the merrier!
When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem, we’re a laid back bunch here so you won’t hear any complaints. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning
Some people who chat here like to try to answer everyone. Don’t feel you have to though, a general “hi everyone, hope everyone’s well” type start does just as well.
Morning Guys!
Happy Birthday Lillibet:beer:
Havent been able to sleep very well but feel very tired
WM will have to go on later and DW needs to be emptied. Some basic tidying due to whirlwind children yesterday. Have a Tesco delivery coming later and friend coming round to do mine and DD's hair cuts.
OH got a chicken out the freezer yesterday, so we will have that for dinner later with some roasties, stuffing, yorkies and veg.
We had a lovely time with freinds yesterday.
Hope everyone has a great day.
Hugs to all.

Morning Pen-Pin, Amie and All who follow/cross.
No activity here for an hour?? Or is it my time difference confusing me?
DH (so means me too) didn't have too bad a night, he managed to drop off again as I went to bed. He disturbed me just after 4, so I got up and dosed him up with Beechams Cold and Flu, it seems to work for us. We both went back off again, and then I awoke at 7.30am got up and made a cup of coffee for us both (have to keep his liquid intake up!) drank it with him, and then got up and here I am:j . So far he is safe as I do not appear to have caught it.
Market today when everyone (except DH) gets up, will leave him here to wallow in sn*t and self-pity. (Sympathy I don't do very well).
Hope you can have a nap later Pen-Pin, but glad you enjoyed your friends visit. Re the whirlwind kids - were they boys by any chance?
Enjoy your none-cooking day Amie. Hope the friends/relatives feed you well.
Take care all - I hope it's not too wet in the west. I can see there is rain in Cheltenham from my windows sidebar which shows me here, home, and Cheltenham where DS is. You are actually warmer atm, but here is brighter and a good forecast again, they are saying 24 on Thursday:eek: . Really unexpected, brought loads of jumpers/cardis with me, and packed the shorts/vest tops under the bed:rolleyes: won't take much to get them out though if they are right.

Good Morning all!
Amie, I've got a manual pasta machine and it works fine, easier with 2 peeps as the sheets can get very long..... the cutter doesn't work as well, so I cut by hand. the recipe I use:
Jamie Oliver's recipe for pasta:
600 g flour tip 00 (or bread flour)
6 large eggs, mixed together
Make a well in the flour, then add in the eggs and mix with a fork to make a dough. Knead it until smooth, then let t rest in the fridge, well wrapped for 30 minutes at least.
Roll out 1/4 of the dough to flatten it, the roll it through the thickest #, then hte next one down, fold each end over 1/3 so you have a triple thickness, the repeat, turning 90' - do this at least twice. This helps stretch the gluten a little more. then run it through to the 2nd thinest #, cut and hang.
I hang it on clothes hangers, to dry before I cook it. Leave it about 30 minutes. If you are going to make pasta regularly, buy a dowel rod or 2 and find somewhere to hang them from. Slide them off the hangers and into a container once dry and you have your own dried pasta. Takes about 3 minutes if cooked on the day, a little longer if completely dried.
the texture should be dry + silky. I put my pasta on a cutting board and use a sharp knife and cut it as thick as I like, then onto the hangers.
Hope that helps!
Dinner last night was OK. Roasted chicken breast quarters and ratatouile crumble and cous cous. none of it was that hot, tho, and I'm not sure walnuts go with ratatouile. Dessert was profiteroles, but they had booze in them so I only had one. And muy DH said they were pouring wine into his glass 'to top up' so often he at one point had 3 diferent wines in it, and that was horrible!
But the company was great - there was another family there and it turned out I knew the guy from work (didn't receognize him at first. So we talked about the railway all night............... LOL
My foot is sore right now............ got to get DH to get more ibuprofen.
Have a good day, everyone!0 -
Morning - I was so exhausted last night that I slept for 7 hours which is a lot for me; I didn't want to sleep too late or I won't sleep tonight. My back's quite twingey this morning after yesterday's mammoth clearout so I'm easing into the day gently. DH is out for the afternoon so I can please myself pretty much today. Food shopping this morning, and more tidying up and laundry at some point, but that's it. Now I've cleared the bedroom I have somewhere to set up the ironing board so I'll probably tackle that, and clean some windows.0

Good morning, everyone! DH has gone off to China for a week, and as DD has woken up with a sore throat she's now in bed with me and we're sharing a pot of tea and a chat. She's off shopping later with friends to get some last minute things for a school trip to Barcelona later in the month.
More HM soup and bread for lunch, and toad in the hole for supper.
DS's team won 14-0 yesterday (we think it was, difficult to keep track once we were into double figures). Keeps them top of the league, with a goal difference of more than 100  :T
I have a big pile of paperwork that I've not touched since before Christmas, so will be tackling that *hot-spot* today.
Amie - I have a pasta maker that I got from Freecycle. It's great *stress-busting* and I probably use it about once a month.

Good Morning
Many Happy Returns Lillibet
Nothing too much planned here today. DS has football at 11am. We are then having Roast Chicken will all the trimmings for lunch followed by apple and blackcurrant crumble. Also need to make some bread for sandwiches for dinner.
Will be finishing the washing and ironing it all so will definately start the week off with no ironing.
Kids want to play the wii later so probably will be playing tennis and bowling.
Hope you all have a great day.

Morning all,
Happy Birthday Lillibet
My experimental loaf is just about to go into the oven! its been nearly a week in the making so it had better be good:rotfl:
Both boys playing nicely upstairs, that won't last:D
DH taken himself off to his fishing competition and the boys have been invited to a birthday party later today so will be taking them to that.
Just got a bit of tidying to do and get uniforms ready for tomorrow. Right now though relaxing with a nice cup of coffee before the boys venture downstairs.
Annie, I have a pasta maker and have used it quite a few times I get the boys to help me they love it. Can be a bit time consuming but worth the effort especially when you make your own filling for ravioli etc.
Hope you all have a good day.Proud to have dealt with my debts. Nerd number 288:j Debt free date Dec 07 :EasterBun

Good morning everyone,
HAPPY BIRTHDAY LILLIBET xxxx
Didnt want to get up this morning, but wanted to get my bedding into the WM, so had to in the end!!! Had a bad night as DD got in with me at 1, and then DS (very unusually) got in around 6, so although i am later up, i havnt slept much in the last few hours.
Not too much planned today - we are also having roast chicken for lunch, and then this afternoon we are going over to one of the LOs i look after as its her 5th birthday!!! Hard to believe that 5 years have gone so fast (ive looked after her since she was 6 months old, all but full time) they are moving away in a couple of months time, and i will miss her desperatley, but it is what happens in my job!!
Also need some milk, so will get that while im out.
Did loads of cleaning yesterday (including my childrens rooms, or should i re name them pig-pens!!! They arnt now tho, all shiny and clean, but not for long!!!) so not much to do today, will give the kitchen a good going over after lunch and thats about it.
Sad, i know, but looking forward to Dancing on Ice later so will have to make sure we are home in time for that!!!
Hope everyone has a lovely Sunday, raining and blowing a gale here, will have to go and find the lid to my bin in a minute, it seems to have disapeared!
Take care xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx0 -
Gooooood Morning fellow OS'ers
Many happy returns, Lillibet
Today is moving boxes day and some playtime with my new digi camera. Have already hung up the laundry which was in the machine and, like catowen, I've got some bedding to launder today.
B: Home made granola
L: Sliced roast beef (from the freezer), jacket potato and hm coleslaw
T: Hm yogurt with some chopped fresh fruit.
Going to make some jam crumblies (but with leftover mince meat) for the lads packed lunches this week and I want to set up the BM for a special loaf to take to a friend tomorrow - she's had a dreadful run of back luck and I know she loves home made bread
Finally have my laptop working again (hoorah!) so I need to set that up with the camera software.
Get well wishes to those who are under par.
Enjoy your Old Style Sunday no matter how you spend it ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
