Dunelm mill do a kilner type jar.Official DFW Nerd Club - Member no: 203.0

Hi Guys!
Havent read all the thread, so hope everyone is ok.
Not been too great today (I bet your all sick of me saying that!):o
We did have a lovely surprise this morning in the way of a £1000 cheque from MIL/FIL for us to do with as we please. We dont particularly have much to do with them. I have explained to OH that he really should make more of an effort with them as they are not in good health, but they have really hurt him/me deeply over the years and know it wont be cured overnight. Anyway, I have wrote a Thank-you card and will get OH to pop it in tomorrow. I do cook for them a couple of times a week as FIL loves my SC Stews, Shepherds Pie and Sausage Cassarole:D OH comes from a big family and none of the rest bother with them really which is quite sad.
Tesco delivery came and there were no problems:j :j :j ...used £15 vouchers and shopping came to £54 and that should easily last a few weeks except fridge and fresh. I bought some of the Ragu Lasgane and White sauce for Lasagne as they were 60p a jar and have enough for 3-4 large ones if we have people over for dinner as it is such an easy meal. I know I should make the sauces myself, but at 60p a jar it would probably be more expensive. Also bought some store cupboard items such as Heinz Tom Soup 8 tins for £2.36:D , lasgane sheets, diced lamb, lamb mince, sausages, flour, pudding rice, treacle, plum toms, baked beans...loads really.
DD is only in school for 15 mins tomorrow for a life focus interview. They will be discussing what her goals are academically etc. She wants to be a Zoologist, so they should explain about GCSE's needed, A-levels then University.
Anyway, hope everyone is well.

Thanks everyone, think I've persuaded Mr Sparkle(quick lesson on weevils and suddenly he wants jars as much as I do so thanks for that suggestion!)
So tomorrow we set off on our glass storage jar hunt, heading to poundstrecther first, then will head down to matalan and dunelm mill if I have no luck.
hurrah, pretty new stuff!
Will also buy some flour etc to put into said jars and perhaps make a cake or something as a reward for Mr Sparkle0 -
queenie - i waved from the border of wales into cardiff in case i missed them:D donny gal - your house is amazing thanks so much for the piccys and the weather link will be keeping a close eye on that one :j
dlb - you have spoke about your parties before (bb and jungle) and they sound fantastic bet the snobby mums havent ever done anything that creative
well am in my hotel and despite being a bit hungry am going to pass on cardboard room service. Not a particularly miserly decision honest this internet connection is 15 quid for 24 hours:mad:
Oh and the kitchen fitter didnt turn up:mad: So frustrated - maybe the local press is the next move but I just wish it would get done.
good news.................ermmmm....................I had a really good trip down traffic wise that will do:D
anyway folks have a good evening

Hi Penpin. That must have been really nice, I think unexpected generosity is often better than the expected iyswim. Hope you soon start to have some days when you're feeling better.
Thank you for sharing the knowledge of your windfall with us, it's nice to hear when nice things happen, enjoy it Penpin, you deserve it. :j
Hi Sparklewing, I think I may have to find that thread on weavils and show my OH, I could do with some better storage too. Well done for managing to convince yours!!! Not sure whether to try and convince mine or just get them myself, I could always budget it in somewhere... sounds like a plan!!! perhaps when my pantry is finished. Enjoy your shopping expedition tomorrow!!GE 36 *MFD may 2043

Your "I want never gets" brings back memories. It was one of my Mum's sayings, and my DS knows it well from me. Strange how we can turn into our Mum's at times.:o The offer for refusing food, was that or bread and jam, the problem being my brother preferred the bread and jam
dlb - what idiots! Could never stand these perfect Mum's. I never professed to be one. Hope your party goes well. I did several, found a good disco worked well but I did the food, but roped in as many friends/party attending Mum's as I could:beer: . I found a bottle of two of wine to say thanks never hurt.
Hi sparklewing and welcome - SC aren't just for stews, they roast meat and it comes out very tender. As for the BM we don't use much bread but I can make a small loaf as we need it, and know what goes into it.
Thanks Nelski - you have my sympathies being in the hotel. Maybe it may be worth finding a local supermarket and buying a sandwich or made salad and chicken portion, bottle of wine to eat in your room (you could carry a knife and fork with you), and put the till receipts in for expenses, or even eating at their cafe. It is hard I know if you are a female on your own with no other colleagues with you. You get bored in your room, nowhere comfy to sit apart from on the bed, carp tv, and if you go to the bar, everyone looks at you as if you are trying to pick someone up! Do you take DVD's for your laptop? It's even worse when you have to do it in France/Germany/Italy and the tv is in the foreign. Food is better though.
Congrats Pen-Pin maybe when you are allowed to travel a break in the sun would boost you up.

Hi Donnygal I have to confess I have only used my sc for stews casseroles, etc. I didn't know you could cook a joint of meat in it-apart from honey glazed gammon. How strange that I happily cook gammon in mine and it tastes great but haven't cooked beef, lamb or pork. Thanks for the info. I shall look into that. I have read somewhere on one of the threads that you can make rice pudding in one as well, must look up recipe and method for that one too.
I remember standing in playground waiting for DDs to come out (when they were younger) and there were often a group of stuck up mothers waiting for their kids. They were always very false from their voices to their topics of conversation-very clique-ish. I'm the type of person who people take as they find me. Obviously I will make the effort but I won't be false or pretend to be something i'm not-I don't see the point in that.GE 36 *MFD may 2043

tattycath - its really hard - switch it on high, throw the joint in, put the lid on walk way. By rights the book says to seal it first, but I never seem to have the time or inclination and it works. The juices make gorgeous gravy just have to watch the fat. You can also do chops in there too add a little liquid and then they will be tender too.
Rice pudding is good - don't forget the nutmeg on the top - the recipe withthe evaporated milk is best, and there are also soups.

Thanks Donny-gal. Yes I see what you mean it looks really hard... but I think I might force myself to be up for the challenge!!!:D
Seriously though, Thanks alot, that's great. I shall definitely be using my sc more from now on.GE 36 *MFD may 2043

Tattycath, I usually put some chopped up carrots and onion in the bottom and sit the meat on top.
Rice pudding is scrummy, I just followed the recipe on the pack of pudding rice.Official DFW Nerd Club - Member no: 203.0
