    Well done.............pleased he enjoyed it
Surprising the number of people who eat something they say they don't like when its mixed in with other ingredients.

Wow - I've got a Victoria sponge in the oven, and because I scrubbed the door last week I can actually see if it's risen without opening it!
  • P-P I know what you mean about hotels, I lived in them for 7.5 weeks when I was training, I was so sick of restaurants.

Well, nothign much ahs happened here. all the wine last night made DH hungover, not that he admits to it! Did get him out ot get to the farmers market in Cambridge for Ostrich burgers - a case of 24 is £21, great for quick meals, we freeze then in 2's.

I had a nap myself while he was gone, and slept for almost 2 hours, now he's gone for a lie-down.

Going to have Ostrich burgers, stir-fry cabbage and mashed turnip for dinner.

Toe is beginning to bug me again, might see if my GP will give me a scrip for the anti-inflamms I was on.

Hi, can anyone tell me, I have a pack of dried red lentils in the cupboard, I am going to make spag bol tomorrow, I always put some grated carrot in (for bulk and to get some veggies in)...can I add the lentils as they are? or do I have to soak them first?

    Evening all,

There is a revolution going on in Mean Mansions at present...DD4 says she doesn't want dinners which have been in freezer and OH reckons that dinner is too late, so is afraid he will be sick if he eats now! Could give them both a kick in the rear...OH could have got himself something to eat if he wanted it earlier, the place is coming down with cheese, salami, nice bread olives, and all sorts of salads....DD4 backed down as DGS2 decided that he wanted 'pisghetti' and the only sauce for it was in freezer, so she cooked the spaghetti...I now have a pot of turkey, broccoli and cheese sauce that nobody wants....guess what's for dinner to-morrow??

Didn't do much to-day, going to knit for the evening and try to have an early night so that I can get up at 7.30 without feeling like death warmed up.

Hope that everyone enjoys what's left of the weekend

I just rinsed them and added them as they were ( they were red lentils and on the back of the pack it said no soaking required but 10 mins boiling and 50 mins simmering) I cooked them in the sauce for about 40 mins maybe, and most of them were mushy but there were still some tougher ones, although that might have been because I didn't add enough water or something.
  • Also chuffed as according to my meal plan and subsequent shopping I'd budgetted 1lb of mince between the 2 of us for 1 meal(didn't really have a clue on portion sizes)

The bulking out means that the 3lbs of mince I have bought for 3 meals this month should actually make about 12 meals worth so come next month I will have 9 spare meals already in the freezer :j

:j :j Well done to you, Sola :D:D:D Enjoy!

Pooky - oooh, what a lovely day you're having! 10 out of 10 for your dh :D

meanmarie - when I was growing up, I was given two choices at mealtimes: "Like it or lump it!" Had your dd said that to my mother she would have been told: "I *wants*, don't get; *can I have's* are greedy" ;)
You enjoy your evening of knitting; hope it proves therapeutic.

Nels - have great time in Cardiff; if you should see my cousins on your travels, give them a wave from me ;) (Not made it to Wales for years myself - they've probably forgotten me ... :rotfl: )

dlb - shame about the party - under those circumstances I'd rather have braved the footie pitch! :o A "real" party (to me) would be the proverbial sausage rolls, jelly and ice-cream, iced gems, cheese n pineapple "hedgehog" and lots of party games (pass the parcel; pin the tail; musical statues; etc)

Well the day has panned out quite well. All boxes moved; camera and software played with; general tidy up; bit of "slovenly !!!!!!" time in front of the TV catching up with stuff and baking done :D:D

Now I can enjoy a bit of PC time :D

  • Yesterday I ordered some cooking stuff from Tesco direct, got a big stockpot as the biggest pan I currently have is a 16cm one so pretty pathetic, a couple of new saucepans, various pyrex dishes and a roasting tin.

It should get here either tomorrow or Tuesday(it's next day delivery but sometimes Aberdeen counts as an outlying area for some bizarre reason, so it takes longer).

I am SO excited! Already planning what lovely goodies I can make in my new dishes.

A big pot of soup will be first I think in my new stockpot, and I have a fruitbowl full of apples and pears which are on the turn so might attempt to stew and freeze those for future crumble use (actually can you stew pears?) and the first meal on next months meal plan will be a roast chicken, which I've never ever made before, mainly due to fear of poisoning everyone and lack of a roasting tin.

And now I can make casseroles, and pies and ooh all sorts! woohooo :o
