Daily for Saturday 12th Jan 08

Morning all

Hi, this is the Daily Thread for 12 Jan '08. This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything OS and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an OS natter. The more the merrier!

When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem, we’re a laid back bunch here so you won’t hear any complaints. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread
after they get up in the morning

Some people who chat here like to try to answer everyone. Don’t feel you have to though, a general “hi everyone, hope everyone’s well” type start does just as well.

It's all white and frosty here in N.Ireland. Which would be fabulous except I have to go driving in it soon. Not looking forward to that - I live up a hill which doesn't get gritted and I'm such a scardy cat.

Er, not a lot to report here, just thought I'd get the daily up and running.

Bye

Snowy

    Morning.

Well, my first day off since returning from my holiday. Jet lag is beginning to wear off, so I am waking up early at my usual time. Pity really as I thought I would get a lie in today.

I am suffereing a chesty cold which is not very nice and does not help sleeping much.

Anyway off to town later to pick over the last of the sales. Don't really need anything as I spent loads in the USA, but there may be a bargain or 2 out there to shove on e-bay or something.

Green Bay Packers are playing tonight in the NFL playoffs, so I will be safely wedged in the sofa in front of the fire for that.
Just need some root beer and potato chips....

Hope you all have a great day...

  • Morning Guys!!

Had a good night, so happy about that.

The WM is on, DW has been emptied and toilet cleaned. The floor needs sweeping and thats it really.

We have family visiting this afternoon, so will catch up with news and the kids will (hopefully) play nicely together. Making a big lasagne.

    Hope everyone is well.

Morning all, hope you are all well

I'm at work again as the undergrads have an exam this morning and I have to keep an eye on them. I thought it started at 8 am so I am in early. It starts actually starts at 9.30, bad because I should have had an extra hour in bad, but good because I have loads to do and this is a good start! I went out with people from glycobiology last night and they were lovely, but I'm feeling a little worse for wear this morning. - self inflicted of course, but I think it was the late night that did more damage. OH is still in bed. I offered to cook him breakfast and he said I was evil. :rotfl: He's been tentatively approached to apply for a fellowship here - I have mixed feelings as it's a great opportunity if it can be pulled off but we hadn't envisged staying here forever. I guess we just run with it and see what happens.

My outstanding order from sizzix turned up yesterday, which was cool, so I'm going to be playing with paper when I get home. I'm really looking forward to doing something that isn't work for a change, funny how it gets you like that sometimes.

N9eav, glad you had a good holiday and hope your cough gets better. Snowy and taplady - I hate driving on ice too. Penny-Pincher - glad you had a good night :) Welcome cheap as chips - you'll never leave you know :D

    Good morning everybody,

My turn to get up early with the little person this morning. We've just had breakfast, toast for him, and toast and a poached egg for me.

I am scared of driving on icy roads too. Take care everyone who has to go out early this morning, wishing you all a safe journey.

Right, I'm off to try and make some sort of impression on the tip that is my home. Have a good day all of you.

    Morning All

Not much to report from DG world, went over to friends and went out for a nice Tapas meal last night. Everyone else still asleep here. Just read yesterdays thread.

Moiliere - re the cheque run - yes of course a special run can be done. Just a bit more work for them. Many firms today pay via a BACS run (3 days), but will do a CHAPS (same day) but it costs them. (think I have the right way round). Anyway, my suggestion is to make friends with the accounts person rather than blasting, try turning on the water works, with the "we have to pay some bills and cannot until we get the money from you and they are pressurising me", IYKWIM, and an email/phone call saying thanks when you get it, especially if you are going to deal with the same firm again. Most people working for big firms know how hard it is, its just their accountants trying to keep the money for as long as they can. Good Luck.

Pen-Pin (hugs) yes I would certainly ensure the error is recorded. Maybe suggest who did it has to go through the same thing then she/he may be more careful in the future!

Pen-Pen - Are you now on less hours? Or is does that kick in later? How are the hens, laying well yet?

Market Day today - should be getting ready to go now, but will probably be the busy time before we get off. DH still dying with man-flu, sympathy not forthcoming from here either.

dlb - Good luck with the quitting smoking, Gt Nephew and wife have just done it and I am so pleased. He just needs to persuade his sister to follow suit.

taplady/snowy/Mrs_M/all - take care on the wet/icy/snowy roads. Nice weekend forecast here 18 & sunny, only 2 tonight though:eek: .

    Amie/Annie & everyone else :hello:

Try to catch up again later.
    Take care all - DG

    Morning all!

Didn't sleep that well last night some really wierd dreams that I only half remember now!

Got friends coming over for dinner and you'll all be proud of me as I'm uing up 5 lots of things from the freezer and it's all gonna be home made (well excep for a few nibbles at the beginning and cheese and biccies at the end, main and pud will be!!)

So have to tidy up and clean the bathroom before they get here, so will be kept busy today! Have WM and TD on was trying not to disturb the rest of the family but they have all just woken up.

Weather here not too bad but meant to be wet I think!

Will try and catch up later but prob won't have time!

    Have fab days everyone xxx
