Thanks newlywed - I want to get the weight shifting but not through something unsustainable like Atkins. In all the diet research I've been doing meal suggestions have been along the lines of meat/fish with veg, generally cutting out the carbs. Have been genuinely confused about how much carb cutting is healthy
I think I will go for a balanced approach, replace pasta/potatoes with veg where possible but not ban anything completely as its not healthy. Am not going to beat myself up every time I fancy a few potatoes with dinner, but will try and focus meal around the veg and lean proteins first. Total debt £21,000 :eek:Weight loss to date - 2 st, 2lb:j0 -
I often think to myself that in the '50's and '60's when I was growing up, families ate some stodgy meals, and childhood obesity was very rare. Adult obesity was not common, and this was in my view because meals were eaten more or less at set times with hardly any snacking. Dinner was meat and two (usually more) veg, nothing too fancy. Therein lies the answer to our weight problems.
plus we walked everywhere, played out all the time and were very active, :j nowadays we go everywhere by car, get a taxi if the shopping bags are heavy, kids play computer games all the time and our portions weren't as big!:T
*sorry, replied before reading everyone else's posts, just adding my 2pennorth*0 -
Does that go a mushy browny green colour???
Pretty muchActually, it's really just green...
As for the 5 miles - is that 5 there and 5 back? - if so, you're braver than me!!! It's 5½ miles to work and I know if i walked it then I wouldn't be in a fit state to last the day! I used to walk 2½ miles to work and same home for my old job - that wasn't too bad.
Yep... I'm fairly confident it'll be fine, I'm not quite at my peak of fitness at the moment, but I used to either walk or cycle to work from my old home, and that was 8 miles each way (completely flat though). By the time I'd done it a few times, it took 15 minutes to cycle (quicker than the bus!) or 55 minutes to walk / run.
I'll be happy if I can do the 5 miles in 45 minutes for now
Once I get a mission in mind, there's no getting in my way! I will be thin if it kills me (OK, not literally)!Mortgage | £145,000Unsecured Debt | [strike]£7,000[/strike] £0 Lodgers | |0 -
Hi all,
Weather bad here today & yesterday so DD & me haven't been out for our walk.
Got my shopping delivered today, took me ages to put it away. Loads of fresh stuff, so alot of my time was spent trying to make sure the new stuff is at the back of the fridge and the older yoghurts etc get used first.
Todays food....
BREAKFAST: Porridge with raisins.
LUNCH: Tuna & light mayo sandwich (which I had to stop half way through to get Tesco delivery).
DINNER: Bacon, mushroom & tomato tagliatelle with garlic bread slice & salad.
Few snacks, tea & water too.
Made dinner last night; sausages, boiled potatoes, yorkies, carrots, peas, broccoli & gravy. I totally forgot to make the yorkies, mind you, no one seemed to mind!!! :cheesy:0 -
Hi All,
It's really interesting hearing everyone's confessions but I can't think of any of my own at the present. Sorry.
It's been another lovely day here. We are just about to go for our regular walk along the beach. Going to go further than usual today and treat ourselves by calling in at the local bar for a Coke on the way back.
I too find eating the same sort of thing every day can help as it is novelty that makes me eat. Also when we go shopping I make sure that all the snacky food that OH wants is stuff I don't like. If I don't then however good my intentions I will tuck into them in the evenings.
Breakfast: Muesli etc. Fruit juice.
Lunch: Crackers, camembert and cherry tomatoes.
Snack: Kiwi fruit.
Tea: Probably a pork chop with mushrooms and peas and a small helping of potato and onion. Maybe an orange, maybe plain yoghurt with lemon juice and sugar. I am trying to cut down how much sugar I add to it but need a teaspoonful at the moment.
Drinks: Lots of skimmed milk coffees, water, Coke at the local bar after our walk.
Off to the beach now.

Well in my determination to keep up my lunch hour walking - I have just invested in a waterproof, windproof hiking jacket (online sale). Have been eyeing it up for a few weeks so reduced price will do nicely thanks
Already have waterproof walking boots (from going skiing in my rich (debt increasing) days). So now I will have no excuse not to continue to do my food shopping via foot - unless I need to get 100 tins of stuff or a big tub of washing powder of courseworking on clearing the clutterDo I want the stuff or the space?0 -
Hi everyone, I got back this morning and have just had a nap.... then foolishly jumped on the scales:o My confession is I obviously misunderstood the 7lb by Valentines day challenge
Was it to go on or off?
I thought I was doing well hitting the gym daily, trying to eat about half the portions. Did really well on my 5 a day.....limes, lots of limes- just looked it up, apparently a margarita on the rocks is 200 cals:eek: Now thats just mean:mad:
Ok girls, get set for new start number 287- this could be the one:rolleyes:0 -
Hi Newlywed,
Hate to tell you this but there is a thief about  Some more of me posts av been knicked  and yours Kitty ................................................
Better add something usefull then
I have decieded that alot of my problem is Definitly boredom. The moment I get in I think
" hmmmmm what can I eat now?"
Think I need to get right back into the flylady thread as that always keeps my hands busy, and do some crafty stuff too. I have got Friday off work so I'm gonna do a HUGE clean up and then keep it all under control daily with the flys.
Also decieded that I will try to be "good" for all of February. It's only one month. It wont kill me and it might help get the finances back on track if I stop spending.
Oooooooo one other quick thing ~ had to call into Sainsbugs on the way home from work as Tadpole 2 needed pasta shapes for art at school. I put 2 fruit tarts in the basket, then I took them out again as it would mean that I had spent over the change in my purse and would have to split a tenna. Then I went and got them again, and then I thought " no , they wont taste as nice as you think, and then the change from the tenna will be spent tomorrow" So I put em backClever Frog :T

Dealing with a wobble - someone tell me I am being silly, ok?
I've had brilliant 3 weeks, lost 9lb, started exercising, really really chuffed - but I am already obsessing that come Monday weigh in I won't have lost anymore weight and I am going to get disheartened and hit the cake shop! What's that about??? It's only Wednesday, I've eaten well today, I've walked for half an hour - but right now I have a little demon in my head saying you won't lose anymore next week - so why not go have a meat and tattie pie???? Why not go home and have big massive plate of fattening (but gorgeous) pasta?????
This is one area of dieting that completely does my head in - because I am focused on food it becomes such a massive part of my life. when I don't diet it all just slides down my cakehole and i get on with my day - but as soon as I say the D word...or I start to eat healthily....or increase my exercise (you know, when you're trying NOT to say the D word and trick your brain) it becomes this HUGGGGGGGEEEE thing in my life. I have so many internal convos all day - g'wannnn have it, nooooo I can't, oooooh but you want it, nooooooo stop tempting me - I feel like I am going bluddy mental!
Seriously, I am worrying about Monday weigh in already - please help! How do I just get on with my life without turning into a bloomin' headcase????Comps £2016 in 2016 - 1 wins = £530 26.2%

Hi Nixy,
The difference is this time your NOT on a diet. You are simply decieding that today you will make good choices. Worry about tomorrow when tomorrow comes. Just concentrate on today. Then , all the Todays make a week of sensible choices. What do you know? Some of the weight was lost.
You might not loose any on Monday, but the chances are you will. If you do then keep doing what you're doing as it obviously works. If you don't?............................. well mate, what can I say? If you haven't lost any on Monday , then the very worst thing that will happen is that you wont have lost any. No one will have died.
Chill out about this whole weight loss malarky. NONE of us are bad people, we just want to loose a little weight, that's all. I'm SURE you see it as much more of an issue than any one else around you, and it isn't.
When you get to your ideal weight I KNOW you'll say
"what was all the fuss about? That really wasn't that hard!"
You are too nice a girl to waste your days worrying about which way a mechanical needle will move on Monday MorningSay it once, say it loud ~ I'm an Atheist, Anti-Royalist, Socialist, Tea-Total Veggie Frog and PROUD!:D
