  • Popped back in quick as I have been left in the house on my own with the bara brith.

So far today have stuck to my plan with the one exception that I've had a slice of the above mentioned. Actually, it tasted really sweet and wasn't quite as scrummy as I remembered last week.

Feel for you Cheapdate. Its a toughy when you're stuck at the hospital. I remember taking in Delia Smiths Summer collection cookery book and spending the night reading it when DS2 was taken in. Love reading cookery books. :D

Oh and MrsMc - about the Russian Slab, I have a recipe! (am evil) :D:D

Am I the only one that has never heard of a Russian Slab, and am I better of not knowing?
I think I'll just think of it as something the Russian Women Shot putting team circa 1976 used to eat to maintain their impressive physiques;)

And I think you might probably be right - on all counts. Ignorance is bliss in this particular case. ;)

No you are not, I am also left here gaga wondering if I don't know just cos I am a foreigner :D , glad to hear this is not the case!

Please give the recipe, I promise to use it only to celebrate my 3rd stone weight loss!

    Food ok-ish

Breakfast: 3 ryvita with tsp HM marmalade each

Snack: 2 MARMALADE COOKIES homemade by my friend, could not resist when I went for a cup of tea at her home this morning (will count them in, so no big damage done)

Lunch: Mix veg & pasta soup (no fat, 1/2 stock cube, no grated cheese, counts for almost zero!), 1 ryvita (leftover breakfast allowance) with cottage cheese (counts zero).

Planned dinner: pasta with cime di rapa (this veg does not exist in the UK, but miraculously I found it yesterday at the Borough Market, imported from Italy).

It is a type of turnip top/kale-like green, delicious!. In theory this should be fried in abundant olive oil with garlic and then drowned in wine to finish cooking, served with grated pecorino cheese and topping the pasta, but in reality I shall prob. just boil or steam it, then quickly drag it on the pan with a tiny amount of oil (necessary to brown the garlic, fry-light just not the same!) and then cover with 1 oz pecorino cheese from dairy allowance!

    Ciao all

    Afternoon all,

A pear and tuna/egg sandwich has been my food intake to date, having turkey stirfry with rice later for dinner.

MrsMC...you're too nice to me, I am really just a lazy person who needs a hefty kick in the rear end to get me moving on weight...but thanks anyway!

Frogga...you ok, don't seem to have seen you for a couple of days?

Better start dinner preps and get some bread going for later

  • Hello everyone - hope you are all having a good Sunday. Mrs M - thanks for the muesli slice recipe - I have all the ingredients in too, so I will have a go tomorrow.

I actually don't like Russian slab - if its what I think it is it's like a sort of vile pink and yellow cake affair - am I right?

So far today I have had:

Breakfast - 2 slices of dry brown toast with marmalade
snack - go ahead bar and apple
lunch - 2 dry bagels, one with prawns and one with extra lean ham, baby spinach and tomatoes, followed by some sugar free wine gums (which were not nice btw, so don't buy em!)
snack just now of two toasted dry crumpets with cup of coffee.

I know I am having too much bread today so for tea I am going to have some hm beef and veg curry (very mild) with a little bit of brown rice and a big hm fresh fruit salad. The curry is very simple - just Sainsburys BGTY extra lean braising steak, cubed, mixed in a casserole dish with a chopped apple, some sultanas, two chopped onions, a tsp of sugar, a tbs of curry powder, bit of corriander, splash of cider vinegar, jar of passata, two stock cubes and salt and pepper. I didn't fry off the meat or anything just bunged it all in and put it in a low oven to cook for the next 2 - 3 hours. When it is cooked I will stir in a little natural yoghurt and tbs of mango chutney and season it again.

Right I'm off to watch the rest of come dine with me on More 4 - I love that programme!

    Hi All,

Well, another not too good day as still no long healthy walks due to OH's knee still being swollen and stiff. I can't believe we've been here 5 days already and still not had a walk on the beach. It used to be a daily routine last year.

Breakfast: the usual muesli etc and small glass of pineapple juice.

Lunch: we went out and I had Cajun chicken breasts and salad plus a portion of chips(!) and 2 cokes.

    Snacks: banana and oranges

Tea: may not need any after having lunch out but if I do will be crackers and Camembert with cherry tomatoes.

    Enjoy the rest of Sunday.

    Hello everyone,
I haven't checked in with you all for such a long time, but wanted to pop back and say hi. I'd class myself as a newbie member now, it's been so long.

I had an encounter with a friend that sort of put me off doing anything about my weight 'publically' as it were. I wonder if any of you have had anything similar?

When my friend visited just before Christmas, the exercise bike was in the living room, she asked why, and rather than say I'm on a diet (in case I fail again, bit like keeping your driving test a secret), I gave the reply, Oh you know, trying to get a bit fitter. Then a week or so later we were out and stopped for lunch. Instead of chips or something, I had a chicken salad, was being really good. We bumped into another friend who commented that I had lost weight, and when she left my friend said "Oh for **** sake," and walked off. When I mentioned it to OH he said as she's quite a bit over weight herself, it's probably brought it to her attention that's all. And that's my point, I'd never actually thought she was over weight. She's beautiful, intelligent, caring, and hand on my heart I have never in six years of knowing the lady ever noticed that she's a big lass. She's just my friend and I like her for who she is. I have been in tears thinking that me wanting to do something about my weight is alienating me from my friend - just because she doesn't agree. It's like we've always been fat together, and if I'm going to loose weight then I can't play anymore, I'm not on her team. I only want to loose weight, not mates.! Have any of you experienced people changing towards you as you loose weight? I have never sat there quoting calories as we eat, I have never offered her clothes that don't fit me anymore or anything that would be 'rubbing noses in it'. All I've done is lost weight.

This is why I've sort of been doing it in secret, and haven't been on here for a while. Thought if I kept myself to myself, nobody would notice. But, and it sounds so self centred, I WANT people to notice.

Blimey - what a moaning old farm animal I am!!

Next post will be cheerier - promise!

Alfiesmum sending you a big hug.gif it must be awful feeling like that.

comforting.gif thinking of you and don't let it stop you losing weight for yourself. I suspect it is the other person's problem but it's so difficult for you.
