i use a bigger garage style trolley jack like this

    http://www.armadaleautoparts.com/userimages/Specials/trolley_jack.jpg

theyre a bit more expensive , but dont tipple over when trying to raise the car , they also go alot higher

maybe im spoilt , but i hate those budget ones like these

The problem for some users is that the larger jacks have longer handles. I couldn't use one as I don't have the space to use the handle, silly small garage!

I'm yet to experience my car topple over though even with my cheapo jack

Halfords spark plug wrenches stickered at £1 on shelves/in bargain bins come up at 80p with trade card. Good to keep in the car for any spark plug related emergencies.

Regarding jacks, Argos have a half-decent one for £50 intended for 4x4's. It's ok if you can get it under the car you want to jack up. This is the one I currently use. I used to use a bottle jack that cost about £6 from lidl. The trolley jack is less fiddly than the bottle jack, but I never had a problem using the bottle jack other than to get the wheels off the ground on the front while on axle stands I needed to jack it up, rest car on stand, then open out the thread fully on the bottle jack to jack up to the next bit on the axle stand. This would probably have been avoidable with those axle stands that sort of ratchet up into position. With the trolley I can get 3 wheels in the air. The trolley jack is heavier to carry and much bigger to store than the bottle jack as some negative points :)
