    Good afternoon everyone,

Thought i would pop on quickly while LO is asleep and other one is playing happily!!!

Been busy today - ive cleaned the bathroom and both toilets, swept the kitchen floor, had the BM on, also the WM which has ended and ive hung all the washing up - ive also done some drawings with the LO so all happy here!!!

DLB - GOOD LUCK - if you need us to keep asking/shouting whatever, just say!!!

Mioliere - I was discharged by my consultant yesterday at the hospital, cos my blood results have been good. He has said i can call anytime im worried, and they will see me the same day, no questions, so i am so pleased, such a relief to me (and my poor arms) that i can stop having all the tests - its not as if they can do anything, the only thing they can do is remove my spleen (and there is no guarentee that would work either) and ive refused that one, unless my bloods went really low. He also said that because ive put on some weight (bit too much for my liking) that might actually help (all to do with hormones apparently) so although i want to lose a little bit, im not going to try and get back to my pre steroid weight.

Pooky - hope your DDs feel better soon - prob because they have just been ill their immune systems are weak, so they pick up things easier, and there is so much going around at the moment!!!

Ive also been watching Hughs chicken thing, and although i agree with everything he says, and feel that the supermarkets really should do a lot more about animal welfare, i would love to see these rich chefs shop on my budget. We get through 18 pints of milk a week, plus a pack of butter, and already thats £7 out of my £35 budget gone before i even start to think about actual food (and thats buying the milk in the cheapest way, in 6 pints and the cheapest value butter). Chicken prices at the moment in Tesco are - £2.07 a pound for a bulk standard chicken, £3.69 for a free range and £4.49 for an organic - which is on special offer, should be £5.49. Now with those prices you can see why the majority of people HAVE to buy the cheaper chicken - if they got rid of the cheaper ones, we wouldnt have chicken, its a simple as that, because i couldnt afford the more expensive ones. One day, i hope to be able to buy the organic or free range, but seeing that i want my children to eat fruit and veg, and as healthily as i can provide for them, their welfare comes before the chickens im afraid.

Well, after that, im off to wake the LO.
Hope everyone has a lovely afternoon,
    Take care xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

    Afternoon all,

Fizzell....hope that you have good luck with finding somewhere to live soon

    dlb...good luck, have pmed you

Hugs to all who are feeling down or ill in any way, the weather is not very helpful at the moment, a little sun would be nice, very cold here.

Ordered oil to-day....€699 for 1000 litres, hopefully we don't quite need that much, but can't run out at this time of year.

Haven't bought butter for ages, been using substitute soft stuff, but OH bought a pound to-day and it cost €2.92 in our local shop! I think that the last time I bought some it was around €1.85....so we are going to have to have a shop around as we all prefer to have 'real butter'.

    Have a good day everybody

    Hello everyone

Contrary to rumour, I have not been swallowed by my telly.... here I am albeit with rather squarer eyes than before.

Today I'm off wo*k as I have the flu. Well, it was the flu yesterday as I had the shivers, aches and pains and an horrendously sore back when I sneezed (hope it's not a lung infection setting in). Today my back is still sore but I'm not as shivery as before. Looks like I will have to go back to wo*k tomorrow, dammit.

Anyway, enough about me. Celyn90 - what about converting your trews into a pair of shorts, either the smart variety to just below the knee, or the above the knee variety for lounging in the garden during the summer? It'd be a shame to have to waste the trousers when they are a good fit and comfortable.

I do feel v.sorry for Hugh Wotshis-Face's chickens - and they aren't even being held in the worst conditions that exist out there on so called "farms". My god, they are living breathing creatures, not plants!! I understand the point that not everyone can afford the higher priced chickens and do have to make a decision on what is more important. However it was an eye-opener when Hugh Thingy-Majig was met with such amazement when he showed the people how to use the carcass for more meals. It's good that he's raising awareness of where food comes from, and maybe this will have a knock on effect for the benefit of the animals we eat.

On the Jeremy Vine show on Radio 2 today there was a feature about low energy lightbulbs. There was a lady on there who discussed how they could trigger an epileptic seizure in her and how she has had to turn off all the lights at her place of employment. Also some expert or other mentioned how they can exacerbate skin conditions such as eczema, and even interfere with how chemotherapy drugs work. It's something to do with the intensitity of the light that they emit, even though their wattage is v.low. It sounds like there needs to be a bit more research done and information shared with the general public, so that we can make informed decisions. Oh and I've got a bee in my bonnet because I've had one in the bathroom for about 18 months now and the stupid thing has just blown. Grrr!!!

Good luck to those giving up the ciggies - it's difficult but not impossible, so keep trying even though it's hard. (And if I can do it, anybody can...).

Good luck fizzell...............it is only the start of the year..........look on the positive side............things will get better I'm sure.

Was going to do some card making this afternoon till I got another visit from the boy we used to foster who has so many problems. Poor soul was in tears -thought we'd have no tissues left -and even more furstrating as there's nothing we can do except listen and advise. He left on a brighter note anyway with hugs all round.:grouphug:
So, that put paid to my afternoon.............oh well.............there's always tomorrow...........ooops.........no, farmers market is on in town...........lol
    Will I ever be organised:confused:

  • With the chickens, tho, catowen, one reason the free range are more expensive is because not as many people buy them; if more did, it would make better economic sense for the producers and the stores to produce more. get rid of the cheap ones, and the free range would come down in price - perhaps still a bit more money, but everything goes up in price over time anyway.

And if you are worried about feeding children healthily, think about all the antibiotics they pump those chickens with to get them to a profitable weight., that you then eat. Free range chickens dont' get as many pumped into them.

Totally agree with you Cat about the chickens - although I don't agree with the way they are farmed I have to make a choice.

I saw a bit of Hugh Whotsit-doodahh on Richard and Judy last night saying that chicken should be a treat not a commoditty - I completely agree and when I was little, chicken was a real treat on a sunday, but those were in the days when you could pop to the butcher and buy cheaper cuts of meat that were just meat - not added water/chemicals/crap to get you through the week. I know that these cheap chickens can be pumped with water and other such things to make them appear bigger but they are still a damn site healthier for me and my kids than cheap sausages/pies etc. I know that I get full use from a chicken and it normally lasts us 3/4 meals - I realise too that if I bought a free range bird I'd get the same amount of meals from it but as Cat said, when your basic, milk, butter, fruit and veg takes up so much of your limited budget you have to do the best you can for your family.

I'll get off my soap box.

Spent the afternoon making bags - will post pics on the bag thread in a mo (if I can work out how)

DLB - Good luck with the giving up - my DH gave up 5 years ago with patches but he started before that by changing the way he smoked - i.e. he only smoked outside so started walking to the end of the drive to smoke rather than smoking just outside the door....he felt exposed so it made him want to do it less.....he then managed to cut it down gradually so that he was only smoking 5 a day before starting on the patches - he used the lower strength ones for a week and then tried a day without one on and didn't go back. Hope it works out for you.

Hi everyone. Not had time to catch up more than 3rd page on this thread. Had a big row with OH this morning, both ended up losing tempers-and ashamed to say in front of my kids!!! :o So my eldest DD was sobbing bless her!!! then her sister started. Me and OH ended up going to work in separate cars, he used excuse that he might work late!! Of course it was over something really stupid!!! (aren't they always) we have briefly discussed it at work this afternoon, but he still claims I started it!!! So I'm not really a very happy bunny-we are 'friends' now but it really p****s me off!!! I know life isn't perfect but I don't endlessly moan at him because he is a square eyes and often, loads of jobs don't get done coz he's too 'busy' watching tv-even if the programme is total cr*p!!! (the row was not about tv!!!) example, curtain pole in lounge, needs adjusting and screws putting in each end and fixing in middle-it's hanging on by a wing and a prayer-needed doing since just before christmas. Still needs doing. He says 'remind me and I'll do it' He's a 'gunner/gonna' he's gonna do this and he's gonna do that and nowt ever gets done til he's moaned at for a few months!!!
Rant over (sorry all, just really fed up today!!!)
