  • Hey I'm new and i wondered what the most reliable site is to check my credit score? I've got a lot of conflicting answers and want a solid recommendation other people have tried and tested
  • Hi all,
can I carry-out a balance transfer on a maxed out card while I'm still paying off another?
  • Hi there

I have a Halifax credit card and it has now past the 0% stage so I have been looking at balance transfering it to another 0% card.

I have been declined a couple of times and i'm scared to try again as I know this affects your score.

My sister says she will open a 0% card for me in her name, does anyone know if she can do a balance transfer from a card in my name to a new one in her name?

    Thank you

    Helen

My mother inadvertantly used the wrong credit card which was five months into a 0% balance transfer period. Can she do another balance transfer with the new amount to another provider. I know she will incur another 'transfer fee' but is there any other penalties for using breaking the rules on her 0% interest period of 15 months?
  • I felt the same about monies too but decided to take bull by horns and follow Martins list one by one. Just started today - got my existing Barclaycard rate reduced as a goodwill gesture by Barclays after I asked what they could do before I moved balance.

    Hi,

I need to make a balance transfer to my current account (debit), which is currently with First Direct.

From what I know only MBNA credit cards currently allow this, and I already have a Virgin Money (MBNA group) card which has 0% until May 2011. I have an outstanding balance on it which I will have paid off by May 2011. I have a Barclaycard which has 0% off until November 2011.

I have spoken to Virgin and I am able to do a balance transfer to my First Direct debit account with a fee of 2.5%, this will then take my Virgin card into debit. My question is can I then make a balance transfer from my Barclaycard at 0% to the Virgin Credit card to clear that balance? I then will pay off my barclay card monthly while it is still 0%.

The guy I spoke to at Virgin said he does not advise this (I am thinking because they want me to do it from the virgin card and pay a fee of 20%APR on the balance until it is paid off).

Or the other option is, I do a balance transfer from my barclay card to my Virgin card, which will take my Virgin card into credit, I then do a balance transfer to my First Direct account - do you know if this will work?

I know there is a mule card option, which means I get an Egg Money credit card and do the same as above using the Egg Money card, but the only problem is, I already opened an Egg Money account last year and then closed it, so they are now saying I have to wait 12 months before re-applying.

    Any advice will be appreciated.

    Thanks

i have had to use my halifax credit card for a couple of bigish purchases in the last 6 months i have about 7k used on a credit limit of £14k+

as soon as a property sells i can pay off but who knows how long that will be this day and age.

so can i transfer the balance to a 0% i would like about 18months if possible as a safty net to pay it back.

i may want to pay more than the min each month but have no idea abiut this kind of thing as never been in this situation before.

who do i apply to for the best deal please

also i assume i still keep the halifax card if i can find someone to transfer to
  • Im finding it hard to actually do a balance transfer is this how it is thesedays with the banks and CC company's.

  • OK I think this is going to be a long one, so apologies in advance!

I currently have a barclaycard (24.9% APR) with £1600 (£2000 limit) on it and an overdaft (19.9% APR) of £2300.

I have applied and been accepted for an egg card (£5,500 limit, although card yet to arrive so I'm not yet totally believing!) 0% BT until Apr 2012 (17.9% after) on transfers made before 1 May 2011.

As the new card has a limit that will take both debts what I would like to do is get as much of the interest earning debt (CC and overdaft) onto the 0% BT card.

[I know that BT cards should be aimed to be paid off before the end of the 0% period, but I am hoping to Tart and even if I can't the interest rate is lower than my current borrowing anyway.]

My thought is to BT the barclaycard, and then rack up daily spends on the barclaycard again, reserving the cash to pay off the overdaft. Then balance transfer the barclaycard a second time before the May deadline.

So the £3900 question is: can you balance transfer from the same card twice? I can't find anything in the egg terms and conditions that says no, and I could call their customer services (once I have the card) but I would appreciate some experienced MSE advice/warnings about the pitfalls.

    Thanks,
    KarmaChi

  • Hi does anyone know if it's possible to transfer a balance from a credit card oversees? I have a family member in the states and want to pay off their cards using a UK card here.
