hi all, i decided to follow one of martins tips & transfer my cc balance from the post office to barclaycard 0% for 17months & wish i didnt bother it is a total nightmare!!!!! sorry martin.
first of all was accepted for the card which was recieved in 5 days. then called b/card to activate the card & then was asked if i wanted to do a balance transfer for which i said yes & asked for the 0% over 17months. after 3 weeks still heard nothing about the balance transfer so called b/card & they told me there was no balance transfer showing on my account. so i asked why? & they said it was a human error so thought yeah ok that happens so asked them politely if they could do it again. they said yes but the 0% over 17months offer had finished & i could only have 0% over 12months & they would waive the £50 balance transfer fee. so ok not happy but i could pay it over 12 months anyway. recieved my first statement to which the balance transfer fee had not!! been waived! so called barclaycard customer services to see why not! then was told my balance transfer fee had been waived & this would show on my second statement!!! then was told the amount i owed was double what i transfered!!! so now my balance with b/card has doubled & my previous credit card with the post office is now in credit by the amount transfered. barclaycard said they would retrieve this back as it was there mistake!!! but nothing has been done!! this has cost me over £30 in phone calls to try & sort all this out & has been an utter nightmare & its still not sorted! any savings i was going to make seem to be wasted calling b/card for what is there mistake!! barclaycard just dont want to know!!! i just feel lost as no one there seems to know whats going on !!!!!! please help!!!!!!!!!!!! any advice greatly appreciated.

had the same problem with halifax/cap one, you need to keep on at them i know its a pain but they will sort it if you stick with it, ask to speak to a manager then when you have tell them you are going to take it to the ombudsman that is when things started to sort itself always get a name when you ring keep details of time etc good luck:j

problem in terms of credit card usage that happens everywhere we live how to use it not to get entangled ole debt. so there is a balance

    Define "best".
    What do you want?
    Longest 0% duration
    Lowest BT fee
    Lowest minimum payments

Where's the balances now? No point in recommending a card you already have.

I have had a similar problem. I applied for a Barclaycard Platinum card for the 0% for 17 months deal, and got the card through within days. I phoned to do a BT and was told that it was only for 12 months, not 17. I explained that the only reason I applied was because of the deal, and they eventually owned up to the fact that it was a 'glitch' in the system and would be rectified.

I phoned again today and was told in no uncertain terms that it was only for 12 months, and there was nothing they could do about it, except apply for another card!

I've sent a letter of complaint to their head office, but I'm not holding my breath. I can't honestly believe a company of Barclaycard's standing is messing people around like this.
  • In fact, i have no credit card, i do not like it.
  • Hi all
I'm not sure if I've posted this is the correct place, so apologies if I've not....but I really need some advice......
Last week I received a card from my Asda credit card for my additional card holder. Accompanying the card was a letter offering 0% on balance transfers for the life of the balance. I did think this was an exceptional offer and so when I rang to register the card I double checked that the offer was correct and valid with the lady who was activating my card. She confirmed that whatever the offer was on the letter then that's what I could get. I asked if it was valid for a short time only, as I was looking to transfer a balance within the next week and she advised that this offer was current and valid as I had received the letter and she gave me the number to call the for the next week when I was ready to arrange the balance transfer.
I have subsequently paid circa £2000 for a holiday on another credit card, with the intention of transferring the balance onto the Asda card at the 0% offer. I called on Friday to request this and was told in no uncertain terms that this offer was not and never was vaild 'the computer had made a mistake when printing the letters' and I was also told that Asda were not currently accepting any balance transfers at all. I was rather concerned that I had paid out on another, higher interest rate card, with the intention of transferring the balance as a direct result of this offer. I asked to speak with a Manager but (perhaps unsurprisingly) there was nobody available to speak to me and I was promised a call back within 48 hours. Low and behold this has not materialised and I am now more than a little angry and unsure what my next move should be?? Surely this type of 'banking practice' is unacceptable, and under the same rules as when shopping on the high street, if that's what's advertised then thats what I'm entitled to get - error or no error??
Any help or advice would be gratefully received.
  • Hi I am coming up to the end of my current 0% blance deal on my card so am looking to swap for the 4th time now. I have been with Virgin, Barclay Card, and currently with Nationwide...I seem to remember there used to be a chart on this site which listed all the credit cards available and which ones belong to the same groups. So firstly does anyone now where to find this chart on here and also what 0% deals I could now move to which are not connected to one of my previous cards

I am looking to do this in the next few days so any help asap would be greatly appreciated.

    Many Thanks

  • Hi,

I had transferred my balance a few times before. I found the service from Capital One and Barclaycard was really poor. I have recently transferred it to Virgin and found their service much better than the others.

I have also recently sold my house and used comparethehouses.com which lets you sell your home privately. It was really easy and completely free, so I was delighted. Anyone looking to sell or even see if their is interest in their house, I'd really recommend it.

  • hi i am new to this site..my question is...if i get a credit card offering 0% on balance transfers can i transfer my daughters credit card balance on to it ?????

I just received my Barclaycard for the 0% interest for 16 months. I wanted to do a balance transfer from my Virgin Money (MBNA) credit card. I had opted out of a rate increase from Virgin 8 months ago and because of this I can't do a balance transfer. Barclaycard asks for an expiry date in order to do the balance transfer and doesn't accept a date in the past. I've spoken with Barclaycard and they say that is their procedure and without a valid expiry date on a credit card, you can't do the balance transfer. When I called Virgin, they said my account was "expired" due to me opting out. I could opt back in but all that would do would be to set my rate to the higher 20% rate. That would not change my account status so I would not get a new card. In order to get a new card, I would need to apply for a new credit card with a chance it will be declined. This is being caught between a rock and a hard place... Seriously frustrated
Have been on the phone to both Virgin and Barclaycard 4 or 5 times each today... Virgin at least has UK call centers where you can engage in a dialogue with the people beyond obvious scripts. Tried to get a contact number of someone else to talk to in Barclaycard which was a non-starter... Will try tomorrow to talk to Paul McWeeney whose name was on the letter I received from Barclaycard along with the card... Apparently Head of Consumer Sales and Service according to the lettter... However, no phone numbers beyond the "dedicated customer service team" in Mumbai. Will have to see how my detective skills are like tomorrow.
Anyone else had this ? Apparently this is a new piece of info Barclaycard are now asking for. When I asked them why, I was told it was to prevent fraud. Makes sense I said, but surely there must be a way to get around that if it doesn't accept a date in the past and you can prove it's not a fraudulent transaction. "Computer says no" was the response !
Same problem today. Their complaints dept said it was a rule introduced by their fraud dept. I suspect they don't want people who opt out of rate increases. Has anyone got round it?
