AOl free laptop - EXISTING customers now included

I ordered mine online last night. I have been out of contract for ages but have been an AOL customer for around 5 years Yes, the form had a credit check on it, but appears to have gone through ok.... and beleive me, with a credit check I would not pass......

Also, go for it via Quidco.... looks like I have £50 tracking....

can anyone who signed up for this as an existing AOL customer say how long it took for the laptop to arrive once the initial order was placed?

I placed my order with AOL on the 17th January and got the first set of paperwork in two days, and the free wireless router in about 3 days, then a second set of paperwork from carphone warehouse telling me laptop will be with me soon.

The timings on the first paperwork say I would receive the wireless router 2 weeks after order and the laptop about 2 weeks after that. Should make it any day now I suppose but can anyone in the same situation say whether these timings were acurate? or did it take longer?

Took about 3 weeks from first contact to delivery of laptop.

Mine was quicker than that, 2 weeks all told.

The free laptop is a HP 6720s, Celeron processor - it'll probably be the 1.73Ghz one listed on the HP website which comes with 1GB RAM. It will be worth less than the SRP of £398, as the one on HP's site has Vista Business and the free AOL laptop has Vista Home Basic. Vista needs a minimum of 2GB RAM to work at a decent speed, so add an extra £25-£30 to the budget to upgrade to 2x1GB sticks of RAM (assuming it comes with 2X512MB which will both need to be replaced).

A similar or better spec laptop can be bought for under £300 elsewhere - e.g. Dell. There are better offers than AOL on broadband.

If you don't need to spread the cost of the laptop over 2 years, then there is almost certainly a better deal out there!

The reason is because CPW have purchased 80% of the BT exchanges but the ones they havent purchased are £10 per month more expensive. I have the same problem as you!

I signed up to the package and received an Inspiron 1520 laptop, I have a problem with the monitor settings. When I start up AOL I get the following message :-
'The settings for your monitor may cause some text in AOL to be too large. AOL is designed for use at 96 dots-per-inch(DPI)'
This causes distorted text on some (not all) web pages.
I have tried adjusting the Monitor Settings in Display Properties and I have also tried the AOL Helpline without success.
Has anyone had the same problem and managed to get it resolved ?
