AOl free laptop - EXISTING customers now included

I ordered mine in November but you have to wait appx 3 weeks for everything to go through (set up, modem, BT line etc). I had to subscribe to AolTalk at the same time (not sure if that's still the case). I've had no problems whatsoever with the wifi or with Carphone Warehouse. They kept me updated throught the process via email & post. I am even happy with the Aoltalk plan I am on. The laptop is great, there were 3 options at the time & I went for the 2nd upgrade option.

I don't suppose you know if this would also include my parents, who have been with AOL for several years on regular dial up and broadband.

Approx a year or so ago when aol were offering free wifi routers and a cheaper price for wireless we contacted and got them to send them a wifi kit too, ideal as they had just bought a laptop, so they're already on the wifi aol option.

So...does anyone know if existing 'wifi' users of AOL, can also get this free laptop, obviously resulting in tying them into the 2 yr contract?

When I took it out, I had 1 wired pc & 2 wireless pc's through a netgear router (previously provided by Aol a year earlier). I too have been with Aol for years, starting with dial up then broadband & finally wireless broadband. Hope that helps.

I'll have to have a word with my parents and see if they will do it....although I believe they're currently on approx £17 per month at the current rate.....they have no intention of going elsewhere as its pretty reliable for them......then hopefully I can score a free laptop for myself off them

did you have to say that you were thinking of closing your account to get the offer, or just call up to ask to upgrade to the 2yr commitment to get the extra laptop out of them?

Sky seems to be the best deal at 5.00 a month, unlimited use. But reading around you have to use their wi-fi router they provide and can't use your own. Also they often connect you to their service before router has been sent out, so you are left without internet access until it arrives.

Apart from this other providers with decent amounts of usage amounts are 14.99 or so, 24*5.00(extra for 19.99) =120.00. So 120.00 for laptop or ps3 (keep or sell on ebay) makes this a good offer.

can you use your own wi-fi router with AOL?
just to make sure you don't have to use the one they provide.

I use a Belkin router/modem with AOL and have had no problems.

I use the Netgear one that came with it but it has overheating issues when it's connecting devices through wifi. This only happens during the summer though but this laptop deal seems ok but I'd rather get a laptop without any strings attached.

I didn't threaten to leave but I was out of contract at the time. Just a tip though, ring Carphone warehouse about the deal & not Aol. I only say this as my first call to Aol was to their call centre in India & it was hard work getting them to understand what I was enquiring about. I then called CPW & they handled everthing from then on. I was never without intenet access at any point.

It's a poor deal tbh, you're paying £480 for a £389 laptop. Also you could just switch to talk talk, they own AOL anyways. And then for £16.89 a month, you get:
Line Rental
unlimited Free calls evening and weekend
8 meg broadband.
And they just gave me a free wireless router for no reason.
