Does anyone know why they charge £10 more in some areas.
On the carphonewarehouse website it says from £19.99 or £10 more in some areas and mine is one of those areas.

Yes, but the £480 includes your 8 meg broadband for 2 years and free router for that too.

Got one as a new customer when it first came out. The laptop is not a refurb, it's new. Not the best spec by any means but fine for the web etc.

The AolTalk deal for me was £19.99 pm with unlimited evening & weekend calls plus AOL Broadband ,download speeds of 8Mbps, and my usage allowance is 40GB. I got a Netgear router(which I already had one from them last year as well) plus Laptop. More than happy with that. I wasn't going anywhere else anyway so basically the lap top has cost me £60 & if I sell the new boxed Netgear router on ebay, it will have cost very little.

That will be because AOL/Carphone Warehouse don't have any of their own equipment in your local exchange (or if they have its filled up). Therefore they have to pay BT to provide you with the service which costs them more.

You might be lucky in the future if they add the equipment to your exchange but it depends if they think they will get enough subscribers in your area to make it viable.

ive got sky broad band as a sky customer it costs £10 pcm a wifi netgear router thingy, im very close to exchange(1 street away) so my speed is amazing, i dont understand how come people will pay so much and be tied in for 24mths.
dont be fobbed off with the so called freebie, look at what it actually is costing u, most of the freebie laptops are very basic spec, its like paying for the laptop on monthly instalments, be wary if u commit.

I am already with AOL but it is on there silver package so would this still be the case?

If I sign up to this deal with AOL and get the free laptop plus not so good value calls, I'm sure there is something in broadband providers' terms and conditions that states if they can't supply you with broadband when you move house then you do not have to pay the rest of the contract and you can cancel. If you move abroad or to another non-serviced address then effectively you have a free laptop.

The monthly price isn't the best - £19.99 plus line rental to BT £10.50 = £30.49/mth!! 24mth contract. £15 delivery charge also! No calls deal!

With Tiscali [no laptop deal] you get a similar one for c £15/mth less!! 12mth contract. Line rental included £15/mth for 8Mb deal and free weekend and international calls, free router, £30 set up fee for new customers. I'm long term existing Tiscali customer [finished contract] ,so no set up fee.

Alternatively Talk Talk is good! £16ish/mth.

There's a chance I'll be moving probably working abroad soon and i the short term living back with parents so they'll have existing telecoms provider and won't want AOL!
