  • Im an existing AOL customer for 6 years and have come to the end of my contract - the PS3 or Laptop offer does sound good so I will ring them to see what they can do for me as an existing customer.

I already have an apple laptop so would go for the PS3 40 GB model.

I live in Cornwall and when I put in my post code it came out at £29.99 rather than £19.99! £10 more expensive than other regions.
I currently pay £17 per month for AOL broadband
For a 2 year contract at £30 per month I can buy 2 Playstations 3 by the time the 2 year contact is up. Not sure if it is worth it.
  • This is funny. Even though AOL are offering the PS3:
AOL Top 5 gadgets you shouldn't buy!

I'm with AOL and never had any problems before and the folks are too. They have a wireless connection on Silver i think paying £14.99 a month. My old man saw this offer in the Carphone warehouse and phoned me but i'd already known about it for some time. Then just now he calls and said he had gone for it.They already have a laptop so i think the plan was to give it to someone. But they have told him the monthly fee would be put up to £19.99 with this and he got a call from BT(i think) saying they had been instructed to cancel their phone services with them as it would be through a different company. If he wanted to cancel the AOL thing then they told him at AOL it would go up to £29.99 for what they currently have so double.Sounds like rubbish to me.Also they would be losing their free calls etc with BT.I told him it's probably not worth it and cos they have messed him about he's thinking of cancelling AOL.They are getting on a bit and it's just my mum that goes online now and again to research things like holiday's etc so they don't know anything about ISP's etc.

I think that either they have misunderstood the customer service rep or BT are being a bit naughty here. I never lost any phone service or broadband service at all. The line rental is still payable to BT & the call charges (if any) are billed though AOL Talk. It was a smooth transition with no disruption whatesoever. There are several options to consider with the talk packages eg I have free evening & weekend calls because that's the only time I am in to use the phone. If they only use the phone & internet occasionaly I would guess they would be better with a pay as you use internet package as the free laptop offer would probably work out too expensive for them. I'm sure orange do a pay as you go broadband package.

Hi there, been reading this thread and wondered - do you need a credit check when applying for the lap top? We've been customers of AOL for about two years and had no problems and currently paying £14.99 per month and happy with the service but we have had credit problems in the past. Just wondered if anyone knew. Thanks....

I'm getting very forgetful! but I'm pretty sure that they did a credit check there and then in the Carphone Warehouse. I was a bit worried about it as I'm in a DMP but I passed, so if I can I'm sure you will too!

The guy at CPW even tried to tell them the laptop was worth over £600:/

I called AOL about 13 months ago saying can you do me a better deal and got my BB knocked down by a fiver to £19.99:)
That was for another 12 months so i could try and get a better price now but i am thinking of leaving for VM as they have faster speeds and i have the TV through them anyway, though saying that i would like to have Sky for their HD

Hi Moxie, thanks for the reply. I'll give it a go then - worth trying just for the laptop as mine's on it's last legs.
