Can I just check whether people really have been asked to select their welcome share as part of registration (as per terms), or if that only comes once you've deposited the £200?

I've fully registered, but reluctant to send money over if I'm not eligible for whatever reason.

my free offer came up straight away even before verified and £200 deposit had not been paid at that point.

Yes, you get asked to select your free shares before you get to the deposit part.

I've just opened an account via the MSE link. I wasn't asked which free share I wanted before depositing £200. So now I have £197 (after conversion to usd fee) and no free shares...awful.
