Found money , how much can i invest long term to accumulate
Slightly jovial thread ……. found 5p today in a car park and like others occaisionaly find a coin.
This thread is to accumulate any other finds and invest purely for fun to see how much free money we can make over time……..
Guessing there are no investments that will accept 5p …… but open to ideas , thoughts etc….
So current investment = 5p …..

Welcome. This is a big site and there are a lot of areas I never go.
Most categories have their own regulars and become a forum within a forum.
Some people are very prolific and appear to be everywhere.
Anyway - there used to be a specific thread about finding money, with some people having a lot of success. I've had a quick look, but can't find it - it might have disappeared in one of the reorganisations or been dropped as some things were during covid.

Congratulations!!
How great that you have come into a windfall and not immediately blown the lot of it 🤣

I always pick up a coin when I see it! What's interesting is I now see more and more silver and £ coins that people drop and don't bother picking up.
One issue is that I'm pretty much cashless now, so I need to find a place to spend or deposit my collection.

I found a £2 coin recently, having googled it, it seems that it is no longer legal tender and banks/retailers can/will reject it……

Which coin are you referring to? £2 coins are still in circulation it's just that the Royal Mint isn't producing many of them.
I'm out of date but for the longest time banks would accept deposits of e.g., shilling coins and give you 5p for each so I'd be surprised if banks won't accept the still far more recent £2 non-bimetal version.1 -
2p, or not 2p ? that is the question .. ..

Which £2 coin is it? Some older round £1 coins were withdrawn, but as far as I’m aware UK £2 coins are still current legal tender.
Also, “legal tender” is often misunderstood anyway. Shops don’t have to accept any particular cash payment if they don’t want to. Banks can sometimes refuse damaged, counterfeit, or non-circulating coins, but ordinary UK £2 coins should normally be accepted.

I used to have an NSI metal money box shaped like a passbook. It could only be opened at the PO, and anything in was added to your post office savings account. Except there was a farthing in it, which was presumably no longer legal tender, so kept getting put back in.
Not sure if NS&I run any over the counter accounts now. You might get a bank to accept 5p, if you already have an account.

Shame it is only 5p. In this heat you could turn a good profit from just £1, buy a box of 20 freeze pops, freeze them, stick them in a cool bag and then sell them at your local park for 50p each, rinse and repeat until it cools off! [Probably need to run away from an angry ice cream van person at some point]
Obviously 5p would buy you one freeze pop in theory, but good luck persuading Tesco of this!

In my youth. I used to beach comb & any monetary finds were invested in slot machines, 🤣
