I agree - having a second bank account for resilience is something I would recommend

    Why the capital letters?

You have been knocking around this forum a while, surely you have seen the threads from people saying their bank account and all their funds have been frozen? Having a second account at least means payments can be diverted to that and you have a usable account.

Not sure why you find the suggestion incredulous.

I found the NW one to be a bit picky with a couple I had from the AA but so rarely use them it's possibly just me

People are rich because they spend less money. A poor man buys $10 boots that last a season or two before he's walking in wet shoes and has to buy another pair. A rich man buys $50 boots that are made better and give him 10 years of dry feet. The poor man has spent $100 over those 10 years and still has wet feet.

Second, third, fourth, insert Pippin/Merry from LOTR meme here

I have at least 3 properly setup with 4 spare that are there for savers and 2 that are from switches that I don't need, I suspect others will have me beat!

It'll only take a few minutes. Your other option is to travel to a branch or post it to NW.

This help page says to post it to your local branch:

This may not help but years ago I opened a Coventry First account and they had a Freepost address you could use to send in cheques for the account. Coventry First isn't a proper current account these days but if you have a Coventry account maybe the Freepost address would work?

I wonder if Nationwide have a similar thing? They have a Freepost address but I am not sure they let you send cheques there.

Nationwide provided freepost envelopes for their InvestDirect account, which was great for paying cheques in during Covid. Unfortunately InvestDirect was withdrawn a long time ago, and they've now ended postal management of the remaining accounts.

I wouldn't use a random freepost address found somewhere on the internet for sending a cheque in (fair enough if it is currently on the bank's website for that specific purpose).

It takes a few minutes to open a Starling account, so even if Nationwide had a branch near you then it would be vastly less effort than going to the branch.

Nationwide are notorious for having outdated technical offerings, so if you don't want to use the old fashioned options they have then another account is the only way to pay it in.

I think I used to have one of those InvestDirect accounts. I had completely forgotten about it.

If the ability to pay a cheque in at the post office or by freepost is an important feature for you, then move your current account to someone that offers it (Co-op for example offer both those things). Consider when you think you'll next receive a cheque after this one.

If you don't want a new account or to switch, you may need to bite the bullet and fork out for a second class stamp.
