My partner snores terribly and there's a lot of nights when I've totally given up and ended up sleeping on the sofa! I'm getting really sick of having to do that now though, to be honest, but it's so much easier than waiting for him to waken up and go downstairs!

He's tried everything, the sprays, the strips, a clip under his nose, etc. He's not overweight and has no other medical problems that we are aware of.

Even when I go downstairs to the sofa, or on the very rare occasion when he goes down, I can still hear him snoring loudly from up/down stairs!!!!

Sally, if the sprays, strips etc aren't working then, like my OH, he is probably the kind of snorer whose jaw falls back, rather than the vibrating palate variety. If he goes to his GP he will be referred to a specialist who would be able to confirm this if it is the case. Then he will need to have a gumshield device made to stop this which he puts in when he goes to be (see my previous post) it works like a dream for my OH but it did cost about £300.
  • My OH snores and its driving me insane! I wear ear plugs but find they deserve my sleep just as much, I really dont like wearing them!

One thing that really annoys me about the snoring is if I tap or shove him in the night due to snoring, I get in trouble the next day, he says that I shouldnt shove him and wake him up...!!!! I dont want to end up sleeping in another bed cos I love cuddling into him ( when he isnt snoring!).

Its really difficult! He has tried nose strips, sprays and a hideous gum shield thing that kept falling out.

He isn`t over weight and is very healthy and fit too.
  • Hi,

I bought a device from Lloyds Chemist - it's like a mini tens machine for the wrist. You wear it like a watch and after 3 snores over a certain decibel level it issue a small pulse to the wrist which causes a minor change in position which is enough to stop my husband snoring :T. It doesn't wake the wearer. It cost about £10, and worth every penny for a decent nights sleep.

    Might be worth a look.

Here is a link to the Epworth Sleepiness Scale quiz which is actually what a lot of Dr's use to diagnose conditions such as Sleep Apnoea and other sleep disorder's there is also lot's of info on snoring causes and cures (some of these are quite pricey.

The other thing about ear plugs is that they provide a nice, warm, moist environment - just perfect for ear infections to grow in. I stopped wearing them after I got an ear infection after wearing them for a few weeks (I'm not prone to them - don't think I'd ever had one before). My doctor confirmed that the infection was almost certainly down to wearing the ear plugs.

Well I have my CPAP machine for two nights and its all been very positive.

It wasn't as difficult to get used to as I thought and both nights I have been asleep within 10 minutes. I haven't woken up during the night either.

Best of all though last night I stayed up till 10:30pm  and I wasn't tired. It was really bizarre not falling asleep on the sofa by 8:30pm.

During the day I haven't been yawning and my body has stopped aching

The only slightly negative thing is that with the mask on it is harder to listen to the radio in bed. Still I'll learn to live without that :j

OH doesn't snore but he does breathe loudly and I am a light sleeper, so ear plugs usually work for me. If they don't work, he goes in the living room, he doesn't mind. He wouldn't expect me to go in there.
