any tips to stop snoring?

My hubby's snoring has got worse in the last year or so. He's been usiing boots own brand breathe right strips, which work realy weel, but they cost £11 for a months supply, he's tried reusing them but it doesn't work. Has anyone got any suggestions for snoring, or a cheaper alternative?

I don't have any advise unfortunately. I snore so badly my neighbours complained, they used to jump up and down on the floor (they have laminate flooring) with boots on to wake me up! I've looked at all the gadgets on the British Snoring Foundation website but everything is so expensive. If it's really bad maybe he should go to his GP. I've been referred to the local hospital but I'm still waiting for an appointment six months on!

I usually find holding my hubbys nose until he catches his breath works for long enuf for me to get back to sleep, if not a swift elbow to the ribs as "your turning over" works:rotfl: Or alternativly make them sleep on the sofa! :rotfl:

Oh no, you wanted a money-saving option, didn't you ;)
(Sorry, no real advice but I SYMPATHISE! Hubby's snoring is very annoying too).

I had an operation on my nose for another reason but it completely 'cured' my snoring as a side effect, you could break hubby's nose and hope that the resulting re-set does the trick.

I snore so loudly at times I've managed to wake myself up, but not since using http://www.snoreeze.com/ I know it's not cheap but they work brilliantly for me.

OP, I sympathise as my OH is a terrible snorer and was disturbing my sleep so much at one point that I was finding it very tiring and either one or other of us would end up sleeping downstairs or in the spare room just so that I could get some sleep. Not the best solution though lol! ;)

After a while - and after he had tried various sprays etc that didn't work - my OH went to the doctor and was referred to a sleep specialist. Both of us had to attend the appointment (we found out afterwards that sometimes people claim that their other halves snore just so that they do not have to share a bed). Once they realised that we were genuinely struggling my OH was tested to see which type of snorer he was. There are two types: the first type snore because the upper palate vibrates; the second because the structure of their jaw falls back when they are asleep. If you are the former then you can have an operation where the upper palate is cut (ouch) and the scarring tightens up the palate and stops the snoring. If you are the latter you are fitted with a device a lot like a gum shield which you put in at night and which prevents your jaw falling back.

My OH was put under anaesthetic and when he started to snore the specialist pushed his jaw forward and the snoring stopped, so he was fitted with a gum shield device. Amazingly, it completely worked and I now have lovely, restful sleep next to my lovely, resting OH. I do not attempt to kiss him when he has it in though lol. :rotfl:

My advice is to get him to be referred to a specialist by his GP, and let us know how you get on.

My name is Floss and I'm a snorer.....it got to the point where I was sleeping badly, as was my DF, so I went to my GP, saw the ENT chap within a few weeks, then referred to the Sleep clinic for an apnoea test, then back to the ENT chap in 10 days.....in the meantime, I've been using the Boots Alternatives spray and oral strips, which seem to work. They've been on 3-for-2 in Boots, and I get points on them too! I think I'm one of the vibrating palate people, so will let you know what the specialist says after the 17th Jan.

I would suggest going to see your GP - it's debilitating for both of you to have night after night of disturbed sleep.

    Ear plugs

They work for me, and at around a fiver for 30 pairs delivered from Ebay (around 25 weeks supply) it's a pretty cheap way to get a good nights sleep

The best I found are Laser lites
