Wonderful, thank you for the link @eskbanker. I am so looking forward to mentioning to the HSBC complaints handler that HSBC are in breach of the law.

I do now have a complaints reference number, after the local HSBC Branch had been trying their utmost for an entire 3 days not to give me a complaint reference number (and not to raise a complaint), culminating in eventually sending me an email with the number - and stating the complaint had now been closed 🤣🤣🤣. I don't know whether it's merely complete incompetence or actual malicious intent or fear of career-limiting notes on their personnel record for failing to talk a customer out of raising a complaint. Anyhow, my complaint is now active and the 8 week countdown to FOS escalation is ticking. I won't let this lie, and I would encourage everyone whose transfer is in limbo to also raise formal complaints.

As HSBC are failing their licence obligations on what looks a grand scale, perhaps the HMRC should revoke the HSBC ISA Manager licence and appoint a reliable ISA Manager to take over the ISAs HSBC are holding.

Funnily enough that 70 day 'window' was mentioned to me in branch on Thursday, I did think 'really??'.

As mentioned previously, HSBC has resent my transfer forms to YBS.

Just out of interest, have you ever heard anything similar to YBS saying that transfers are instantly rejected if sort code/account number fields are filled in?

I've no doubt I'm in for a long wait anyway but tbh I'm going to complain to YBS as (for now) they are more a problem than HSBC.

I have not heard that transfers are instantly rejected if sort code/account number fields are filled in but this might be YBS practice as they say we need to specify the 10 digit YBS account number. I used to have YBS ISAs in the past, and I did find their phone support and ISA admin very good. Branch I found useless, they wouldn't do anything ever without a prior appointment, even if the two manned desks had absolutely no customers besides myself.

Yes I've found that with their branch, around the time this all started I popped in my local branch (same place as HSBC) and asked a couple of questions.

Two of the colleagues were lets say not in agreement over the answers.

Back to the ISA, well hopefully now we've followed the instructions to the letter things will go ok.

    Thanks for replying 😀

I’ve replied to the YBS secure message they sent me on 30 April 2026 regarding my transfer to HSBC, asking for an update. More than seven working days have now passed since they said they were dealing with the request. Possibly unrelated, but within the last hour HSBC have sent me an email apologising for the delays:

I am still waiting for my transfer to show up in my ISA. HSBC have now had the money for 17 working days.

They have now confirmed in writing to me that they will backdate the interest to the date they received my money into their collection account. That's fine by me as I got interest from my old provider until then. Though I believe it when I see it. I now have nil confidence in their professional abilities.

EDIT: I also just received the boilerplate email @GalacticaActual posted above.

I’ve had a reply from Yorkshire Building Society about my ISA transfer to HSBC. It appears that YBS are waiting for HSBC to confirm they’re ready to receive the transfer, but HSBC are currently experiencing a large backlog - as we already know 😉

    Good morning GalacticaActual

I can see you have requested to transfer your ISA out to HSBC, we have received this request but have been advised that HSBC are experiencing a large backlog currently with their ISA requests and as it stands we are waiting on them to confirm they are ready to accept the payment from ourselves. Once we receive this we will send the funds over to them asap

You may wish to contact HSBC to understand if they have a clearer timescale when they will send us this update, in the mean time do let me know if you have any further queries

    Many thanks

    YBS

One up on me then, at least they have received the request.

Worth doing a complaint - and insisting on making one - if your ISA transfer has been materially delayed beyond industry guidelines. I think they have a generic email for that - if your transfer is completed - and you may well get a small sum in compensation.

Re interest 'where a transfer takes longer than 15 working days (cash to FRISA) or 30 calendar days (investment - I assume that means stocks and shares ISA to FRSA)' HSBC will backdate interest to 15 working or 30 calendar days respectively.

Interest will also be backdated to when they receive it in their holding account - not when it appears in your own ISA account.

The proof of the pudding will be in the eating of course - when ISAs mature next May or June.

I complained to HSBC 6-7 days ago so I'll wait and see, thankyou.
