I know you've already told them, but for certainty remind SCS and the finance provider that you are exercising your short term right to reject for a full refund under the Consumer rights Act 2015.
Don't let them fob you off with a repair or a replacement - you are legally entitled to a full refund. (Unless of course you'd prefer a repair or a replacement…)
And yes - make sure you claim back any expenses/costs involved in getting the independent report

UPDATE
SCS sent an email to say they would only refund £75 of any inspection cost, and quote their claims under warranty, i replied that this is not a warranty claim and heard nothing further.
Had an email today from the finance company stating our claim is ongoing and they are gathering evidence to try and resolve my concerns and they will write to me again within 8 weeks.
as i have already waited 5 weeks, surely they do not need any other evidence.
Any advice please

The finance provider is jointly liable with the retailer for the quality of the goods. As far I know the eight weeks is the time limit for a final response to be given from the finance company, you may have to be patient and wait for their investigation to be completed. If you are not satisfied with the final response then escalate your case to the Financial Ombudsman service. As for the SCS offer of a £75 refund firmly reject that and inform them that the finance provider is investigating your case.

Who did the independent report?
Who selected them? (You or SCS?)
What did it cost?

Send the finance company a letter before action for the cost of the sofa and the inspection OP.
You’ll find templates on Google.
Give them 14 days to refund from the date of the letter then file the claim online. They will 99.9% likely fold at some point long before the claim progresses.
Also open an official complaint with the finance company stating you are being treated unfairly by them failing to provide a refund within 14 days as per their obligation under the Consumer Rights Act and that you are seeking compensation for the manner in which they are treating you.
Would not bother engaging in any conversation with SCS again other than telling them to collect their sofa asap.In the game of chess you can never let your adversary see your pieces2 -
[Edit: Cross-posted with @the_lunatic_is_in_my_head. Go with what they suggest]
So you asked on the 20 April if you should pass the independent report on to SCS and you were told "yes".
Assuming you did that on the following day, that was 7 days ago.
You need to remind both SCS and the finance company that s20(15) of the Consumer rights Act 2015 says:
"A refund under this section must be given without undue delay, and in any event within 14 days beginning with the day on which the trader agrees that the consumer is entitled to a refund." [My bold for emphasis]
Tell them that you are treating the day on which you sent the independent report to SCS as day 1 of the 14 days and that you expect to receieve a full refund (including the full independent report fee) by no later than 04 May.
Can you remind me, what has become of the sofa or whatever it is? Have you returned it or have you made it available for collection by SCS?
[NB - I'm not a lawyer but my view is that the important thing about s20(15) above is that it says that the refund must be given without undue delay. The other bit about within 14 days is a weird qualification because if taken seriously a trader could indefinitely delay paying a refund by simply refusing to agree that you were entitled to a refund!]

The furniture is now being stored in the garage, we have stated to scs to refund and collect many many times but do not get a response.
Yes i did send them the report as soon as i reveived the reply from you, they did not formally acknowledge it, only via the one line statement about the £75
many thanks

I don't believe you should send a letter before action unless you are prepared to follow through with legal action in the small claims court.
I have been through similar with faulty sofas, different company though and as soon as I raised a claim with the Financial Ombudsman Service I received a full refund and collection of the damaged sofas followed soon afterwards.
