Where to keep your card?

I have no issue with that - you have biometric and/or PIN security on your phone.

My debit card never leaves home, it rarely leaves a fire safe. I use credit cards for everything and pay them in full every month.

As owning a mobile phone is not compulsory and some of us who have one don't always carry it with us I don't see how they can make it necessary to have ID on a phone. It always surprises me how some people just assume that everyone has a phone.....it is not the case.

Having thought about it, there are specific occasions where I go and never have my wallet with me nowadays. Apple Pay on my watch means that I can be out and about without the need to carry anything other than a towel when I go to naturist events. Needing to carry a wallet and a fist full of coins was a real pain back in the day.

Agreed, I haven't read the details, but is the plan to make digital ID mandatory and offer no alternative for those who don't/won't have phones? I'm nearly 70 and am very tech literate and love my phones and computers. I would never go anywhere without my phone. A digital ID would cover the vast majority of the population and as my peers leave this mortal coil even more so. I believe in catering for those with mental or physical disabilities, but I don't feel a simple choice to be a Luddite should be a reason to scrap the proposals. I might wish to travel but have an aversion to carrying a passport. Would that be OK?

You will not need a smartphone for digital ID:
As part of our consultation, we will be making sure the scheme is inclusive by considering how we ensure that:
- physical alternatives are available for those without smartphones

Good to hear. Thank you @GeoffTF

The credit available with my credit card is very much larger the the money available from my debit card, so I rarely carry my credit card. The bank should compensate me if either card is lost or stolen, but it is less of a drama if the debit card goes.

It is more the other way around. If your debt card gets stolen and used you loose access to that money whilst the investigation takes place, Direct Debits could bounce etc. whilst it can take several weeks to get the money back in one's account. With the card they just suspend the balance whilst they sort things out, no need to pay anything, no loss of access to one's own money, nice and simple.

You've really bought in to the money saving ethos in a big way. Well done 😉
